From American 40's...

PCC streetcars became one of the symbols of American cities in the 1940s. They replaced outdated rolling stock and introduced a new level of comfort.

Smooth acceleration was made possible by the accelerator — a giant electromechanical controller that finely regulates the current.

After WWII the PCC technology It spread across Europe under license — to Italy, Spain, Belgium…

…and even to Czechoslovakia.

The T1 cars were almost a direct copy of the PCC trams.

To European 2000s

And the T3 featured in The TRAM is, in many ways, still true to its roots.

Acceleration is controlled by the accelerator — and the accelerator is controlled by you. With a pedal.

The power pedal has 5 traction positions. The higher the position, the more current you feed into the tram.

Once the input is given, the accelerator starts rotating, gradually cutting out resistors. Here you can see the accelerator positions at 2nd row:

It continuously adjusts to deliver as much current as the selected position allows. And the higher the current — the faster the acceleration.

This is how it worked in 1940s America. This is how it still works today in T3 cars, and the most important: this is how it simulated in The TRAM!

So… is The TRAM a PCC streetcar simulator?
