With the latest version you'll have a minimap in the bottom right hand corner for all graphical modes. It shows the player, visible allies and enemies and marks the location of up and down stairs if you've found them. Hopefully this helps people navigate the dungeon a bit more easily and you won't have to change to small ascii mode to find the stairs!
