The Perfect Pencil is Out Now: A Six-Year Journey Into the Mind

Honestly, it’s hard to believe we’re finally typing these words. After six years of sketching, coding, and probably way too much caffeine, The Perfect Pencil is officially out there.

changedEven as I replay it now the first thing I notice when I start the game is the art. It’s hand-drawn, a bit out there but very intimate at the same time, like something pulled straight out of someone's journal. We wanted the world to feel like a headspace: sometimes beautiful, sometimes a little bit threatening.

Honestly, it’s hard to believe we’re finally typing these words. After six years of sketching, coding, and probably way too much caffeine, The Perfect Pencil is officially out there. Think back to where you were in 2019. Who you were.

For us, that was the year this whole thing started. The idea was a simple one: what if we could make a game that felt like a drawing come to life?

Even as I replay it now the first thing I notice when I start the game is the art. It’s hand-drawn, a bit out there but very intimate at the same time, like something pulled straight out of someone's journal. We wanted the world to feel like a headspace: sometimes beautiful, sometimes a little bit threatening.

We wanted you to feel a connection to what’s going on inside John’s head.

Have you ever doodled something weird while you were stressed out? That’s the idea we were going for. Every creature and every landscape in this kingdom is a piece of John’s fractured psyche. It’s a bit strange, sure, but so are minds. Yours. And mine. And everyone's.

We might be feeling a bit of that crushing pressure even now, as I write this. Hopefully you playing the game will make even this feel more relatable.

We’ve poured everything we have into this for over half a decade, and we are so excited (and more than a little nervous) to see you play it.

Now a few quick notes about the launch:

  • Steam Deck: Good news! The game is Steam Deck Verified. It feels great even when you play it on the couch or on the go.

  • Launch Discount: To celebrate our launch, we’re offering a 10% discount. If you pick it up now, you get a deal AND support a small indie team.

  • Feedback: We’re a small group of artists, so your reviews and feedback mean the world to us. Please let us know what you think writing a review on Steam, It helps a lot!

Will it be a bit weird? Definitely. Challenging? For sure. But we hope that by the time you reach the end, you’ll find that it was worth the trip.

Thanks for being part of this journey with us. Now, go see what’s inside John's head.
