The Making of Karateka changes
Of its many contributions to games as a medium, Karateka's cinematic approach to storytelling is probably its greatest. But don't take our word for it: Influential developers including Raph Koster (Ultima Online) and John Tobias (Mortal Kombat) can tell you all about it in The Making of Karateka.
Described as "a masterpiece of game preservation" by PC Gamer, The Making of Karateka is the first entry in our planned lineup of interactive documentaries. We view it as the start of a new genre, one where the story of games is told through the medium itself.
Featuring archival materials, video features, playable prototypes, and more, The Making of Karateka tells the fascinating story of a game that was, in turn, pivotal to the cinematic storytelling we continue to see in games to this day.
Put another way, it's a story-rich game about a story-rich game. Surely this means we deserve to be nominated, right?
