On Saltstone's first day back to work this year, Jess sat down with James, the game director, and Ethan, the game designer, and asked them a series of questions about the design of The Hearth and Harbour. It was a bit chaotic, but between the two of them, they were able to provide some insight into game development as a process, as well as their personal philosophies on art and the themes in our games so far.

Please enjoy this fairly lofi office recording of two devs having a nice chat. Maybe listen to it like a podcast if that's your cup of tea!

Relevant characters:

  • Jess - interviewer, art director

  • James - sound designer and composer, game director

  • Ethan - environment artist, game designer

  • Thomas - development director, interview peanut gallery

You can also find a text transcript of the full interview here if you like!

We hope you enjoy the interview, and look forward to sharing more about The Hearth & Harbour. If you haven't already, take a look at Saltstone's Instagram for some fun (and shorter!) vids about the development of the game, and other stuff too!

And don't forget to wishlist if you haven't already!
