changed🃏 The Core: Honoring a LegendWe are massive fans of Sword & Poker, a masterpiece from 2010 that took the tension of the card table and turned it into a weapon. It is a game we absolutely love, but these days, it is a relic. Unless you have a jailbroken iPhone 3 gathering dust in a drawer, you are locked out of the room. For years, we watched the forums and subreddits, seeing the same plea every few months: "Someone, please, bring this back."
added🃏 The Core: Honoring a LegendBy adding a loop of game-changing trinkets and rewards that actually matter, we evolved a simple card game into a strategic climb through the ranks of the underworld. We aren't just honoring the original. We are giving it the teeth it needs for a new era.
changed🐦 Why Birds?People ask us why the "wiseguys" in our game have wings. It is not just for show. In the crime world, birds are everywhere in the language. You have "pigeons" who are easy marks and "stool pigeons" who talk to the cops.
changed🎬 Noir Meets Art DecoThe Golden UI: The interface is pure Art Deco. We used deep blues, geometric typography, and gold tones to evoke the luxury of The Great Gatsby.
changed🎬 Noir Meets Art DecoThe contrast between the black-and-white world and the shining gold UI creates a visual tension. It reminds you that while you are playing in the mud, you are always reaching for the gold at the top.

Every operation has an origin story. Before the first card was dealt in the Golden Caravan, we had to decide what kind of city we were building and what kind of birds would run it. Today, we are opening the books to show you how we mixed classic noir, old-school mechanics, and a whole lot of feathers.

🃏 The Core: Honoring a Legend

When the team sat down to plot this job, we weren't just looking for inspiration. We were chasing a ghost.

We are massive fans of Sword & Poker, a masterpiece from 2010 that took the tension of the card table and turned it into a weapon. It is a game we absolutely love, but these days, it is a relic. Unless you have a jailbroken iPhone 3 gathering dust in a drawer, you are locked out of the room. For years, we watched the forums and subreddits, seeing the same plea every few months:"Someone, please, bring this back."

We decided we were the ones to answer that call.

But we also knew that a game from 2010 wouldn't survive on today's streets. Modern players demand more grit and more depth. We took that core poker combat we adored and rebuilt it from the ground up, injecting it with a heavy dose of roguelite DNA. We looked at titans like Slay the Spire and Hades to find a structure that felt as fast and impactful as a back-alley deal. Believe it or not, we were already deep in development before Balatro ever showed its face in this neighborhood.

By adding a loop of game-changing trinkets and rewards that actually matter, we evolved a simple card game into a strategic climb through the ranks of the underworld. We aren't just honoring the original. We are giving it the teeth it needs for a new era.

🐦 Why Birds?

People ask us why the "wiseguys" in our game have wings. It is not just for show. In the crime world, birds are everywhere in the language. You have "pigeons" who are easy marks and "stool pigeons" who talk to the cops.

Our main character, Charlie, is a pigeon. To the predators of this city, he looks like an easy target. He looks like someone you can take advantage of. But Charlie is not stupid.

Using animals allows us to show human traits and social hierarchies without saying a word. In this city, you have predators, scavengers, and prey. The power dynamics are built right into the character designs. It is like a dark fable where the birds represent the best and worst of us.

🎬 Noir Meets Art Deco

We wanted a look that screamed 1930s sophistication and drama. We drew inspiration from the greats: the casinos of Boardwalk Empire, the grit of Goodfellas, and the tragedy of Scarface.

To bring that to life, we combined two distinct styles:

  • The Noir World: The characters and environments are rendered in a monochrome, classic cartoon style. It is all shadows and grit.

  • The Golden UI: The interface is pure Art Deco. We used deep blues, geometric typography, and gold tones to evoke the luxury of The Great Gatsby.

The contrast between the black-and-white world and the shining gold UI creates a visual tension. It reminds you that while you are playing in the mud, you are always reaching for the gold at the top.

The Wrap Up

This world was built on the bones of classic cinema and forgotten games. We are curious to know: what is your favorite noir movie or crime drama? Did any of those vibes reach you while playing the demo?

Stay in the loop:

Don't be a pigeon. Keep your eyes on the deck.
