Another month of dedicated development passed and we are bringing another news about The Flat. There have been some visual updates but also some code updates.
Eye Animation
It is no news that The Eye will play some role in the game apart from the visual one. We don’t want to spoil way too much and take away the fun part, but we want to make sure that it will look (and work) epic. That is why Michał “Malaria” added new animations for The Eye.
Once we begin to work on implementing the features, we’ll be sure to post some snippets here and there. So I recommend you to follow our Discord.
Broken ENON Conveyor Belt
With the evolution of quests and storyline, more models are needed. And those models need for sure to fit the style of The Flat. Over the months, when looking back at the beginnings, we can see what has been added and honestly it does keep me amazed, how much more this world can grow.
Visuals are the key part of The Flat and we are making sure that players can explore every corner of the map and find some clues to their answers regarding what The Flat is and what it is trying to say.
Mechanics Table
Another new addition to the pool of models is the Mechanics Table. As it is with the majority of the models, this one will also not serve only as a visual element, but will have some role in the gameplay. As eager as I am to share more details, I don’t want to spoil fun and after all, all this might still change along the way 😀
Mechanics
Although we don’t have the visual material for the Mechanics part, I still want to take a few lines and write about what is happening, so you know we don’t do only visuals, but work on the back end as well.
Inventory has been nearly completed. We are talking about a bit more advanced inventory that works with multiple UI elements all together and changes aspects of the camera too. It will not serve only as “Press E to open” and “Select, Remove, Use”. But will offer much more than that, think of it as a HUB to all details of the world.
Riddle
Here, I cannot say more as the riddle is an essential part of the game. All I can say is that this is something “new” that I haven’t seen much of before. Malaria came with this idea, and we were able to wrap it up rather quickly. Still... Some polishing is left to be done, but in my eyes, it is pretty near to being done.
Other stuff
We have plenty of other stuff that we are doing in the back end. From tweaking older mechanics, to changing them all together, or rewriting code that I jumped into. One must realize that jumping into the codebase of someone else is no easy task especially since everything is pretty inter-connected. Just know, we are trying our best to not sit still and bring this game closer to being released.
