The Cradle of Life changes
Another smaller development update!
Over the past few weeks, one of my biggest priorities has been making Cradle of Life more accessible to players around the world. The game now supports Japanese, Korean, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese, alongside English.
At first, I thought this would mostly be a matter of translating dialogue. Turns out, RPGs contain… a lot of text….Menus, quests, tutorials, battle messages, item descriptions, status effects—you don’t really appreciate how much writing there is until you have to translate all of it while digging through JSON files.
The game now has a proper localization system, with each language using its own translation files and fonts where needed (my current base font was too fancy for the symbols). There’s still some polishing left to do, especially with text wrapping and making sure everything fits neatly across different languages, but the foundation is finally in place.
I also translated the entire Steam store page into all four languages. Previously, the game claimed to support them, but the store page itself was still only in English—which wasn’t exactly helping players decide whether they wanted to wishlist the game.
Now, players browsing Steam in Japan, Korea, mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and other supported regions should automatically see the store page in their own language.
My hope is that this helps Cradle of Life reach players who may have never given it a second look before. The tactical combat, character creator, and dark fantasy world have always been intended for a wider audience, and this feels like a big step toward making that possible. Disclaimer on this though - all translations were made through Google Translate agents, so there may be some issues with phrasing, but I won’t know until I hire someone to proofread it or playtest.
As always, thank you to everyone following the project. Every update gets me one step closer to the game I’ve been imagining for years.
Next update will likely be the final major one for the demo. We are adding quests ~10 quests and ~15 NPCs to wander about the maps. Additionally, working on a weather system, night and day cycle, and an ambient life filter that adds birds, tree sways, and wildlife you can hunt. After that, it will mainly be polish.
