What changed
- Gameplay
When we first launched The Cooking Class we aimed to provide the players with a fresh touch on the horror genre. We failed.
It was our first PC featured game and inexperience and enthusiasm played a major role in what, in our eyes, made the game underwhelming for performances and storyline alike. For that, we take all the accountability there is to be taken. Although difficult, sometimes overwhelming, we decided that you, the players, matter the most, and our efforts and blood sweat and tears one day will be paid back with your love for the game. So, we basically re-did the whole game to the maximum of our possibilities, skills and budget, which is very close to none.
Some mechanics will stay the same, but we added depth to the storyline which was vague and tasteless, we have changed graphical and technical aspects of the gameplay, we have started a featured YouTube channel to enhance the story-driven experience, through a spin-off analog horror web series, named "Thom Dupont Exposed",
that will shed lights and cast shadows on the history of the Dupont family and their acquaintances, associates, victims.
We also have jam packed the game with hints, easter eggs, interactive features we won't spoil here and a cypher for you to decipher. This re-release means a lot to us. It means sleepless nights, self doubt, excitement, passion, moments of pure joy and utter discomfort. We could have pocketed the money and start working on a new game. Yes, we could have done that. But we didn't because we REALLY care about YOU enjoying our game. This doesn't mean that the game is perfect and flawless. As every indie game, or product in general, will have weaknesses and strengths, flaws and good parts, but we will always listen to your criticism, as we did before, we always will.
The Duponts are now our extended virtual family, we had lunch with them (gross right?), we talked to them, we've got to know them better, and now they are inviting you again to cook with them. With us. Your support will have two effects: the storyline we wrote will go on developing and the plot will unfold deeper than you could ever expect, a true rabbit hole, a maze of characters, hints, nods, branches, different directions and mysteries. Secondly, it will make two small time developers happy and content that someone, somewhere, is playing their game, is loving the story, is entering the family.
This is as honest as we could get. No filters, no lies, just accountability and passion. We are no big time development studio, but we aim to be amongst the fan favorites.
Thank you for reading this far.
We really hope you'll love the update. It should be released very soon.
