addedThe Good StuffProgress! It has happened. I did manage to complete the bulk of the optimisation pass at the end of 2024 and 2025 wasn't a complete write off. I have been tinkering with a new work flow that has yielded some further impressive results in the optimisation department and I've been pushing that in some newly constructed areas in the penultimate map. I wouldn't normally share screenshots of areas that are not finished, but you all deserve something to whet the appetite (juicier stuff will come later)
changedThe Good StuffSo here we are, back on (some sort of) track. Updates will be much more frequent and we're pushing towards the release of the first episode. For those of you who are aware of the recent GZDoom shenanigans, yes we will be moving to UZDoom, and yes the vastly improved netcode means we'll be working to make Age of Hell coop compatible.

First Things First

I am here to confirm Age of Hell development is still happening. Work is actively being done. The completion of the first episode edges closer. Yes 2025 was ... less than productive, but the last couple of months have seen this creaking behemoth gather momentum and I'm well and truly back to work on the game.

But What Happened?

The long and short of it is that I burned out pretty hard last year. There are reasons for that, mostly revolving around my day job (construction site manager), but as my 4th from social studies teacher always said, a reason is not an excuse.

It is however, what happened. A combination of an extreme commute and getting sick quite a few times (2025 bad year for the flu here in NZ) led to having very little energy for dev work. Not ideal obviously, but it is what it is. Life intrudes sometimes and you just gotta roll with the punches.

That's all for now, thank you for your patience and sticking with Age of Hell.

Cheers,
