Terra Memoria changes
Hi everyone,
Yponeko here, the sound designer and composer for Terra Memoria!
As we're pretty close to the release, March 27, before that, let's talk a bit about the Soundtrack of the game!
Where are the inspirations come from?
Terra Memoria is an RPG with a modern twist, based on a retro JRPG era! I wanted to compose music with this idea by getting away from the cliché of grandiose epic orchestral music so that it can be more intimate and focus more on the characters.
How do I compose?
Most of the time, my composition starts with an idea I got while playing an acoustic instrument. I composed a wide variety of styles, and I like to link a specific genre or instrument with a place or a character, I believe that different styles can enhance the sense of adventure!
Let's go straight to the examples!
The instruments that I used (hahaha, that's a lot)!!
Constance
If you already played the demo, the first city Constance, as you discover the city, the music gradually reveals, in the same way that the memories of Syl come back to her.

So, in the beginning it's nebulous, but with the back of Moshang and Alto into the team, it gets longer.
Each character has a particular theme!
Steam post image 🦏 Moshang, he tries to get far far away from the cliché of his species by using wisely of magic.
The characteristics of Moshang reflects quite well in the music. First a heavy connotation and then elegant melodies with a touch of melancholy. I thought it would be nice to give him this colour.
For the instruments, I used quite a lot, including the Dombra, the Morin Khuur and the Erhu (Chinese violin). Feel free to check it out what it sounds like here! Steam post image
🦊 Syl's theme is a very different. Many variations will be heard in the game as the instruments used are flute and piano, orchestral strings. The idea is to reflect her wish & desire for adventure, her new life after leaving school, and sometimes nostalgic for her childhood memories and her parents too.
Check it out NOW to have a picture of what it sounds like! Steam post image
🦥 Alto is the bard of the team, he takes life as it is, enjoy the present, carpe diem.
I found that a theme with a jazz vibe fits him well, yea a bit crazy but happy.
His main instrument is an Irish Bouzouki, in his theme we can also hear bass clarinet, flute and Morin Khuur. 🎶 Headphone on and listen to it! 🎶
For Jady, Moshang's teacher. I wanted to use Nyckelharpa, a Swedish violin with a keyboard. It's a pretty rare instrument so I'm very glad we got Laetita Tison to play it!
The Nyckelharpa has a particular sound that went well with the overall academic atmosphere & rustic style of Jady. 🎶 Listen to it NOW! 🎶
Say Hi to the Nyckel and Laetitia Tison, altiste, violinist and music educator!
I hope that you all enjoyed this little news on the soundtrack! You can ask questions about the music if you want! Feel free to support us, wishlist the game and join our Discord to share the hype!
