Taphouse VR changes
Did you know that Catland has returned? Catland is back in action to release an all new update to Taphouse VR! The new update comes later 2026.
Footage captured from a Meta Quest 3 in standalone mode!
What's new in Taphouse?
After the update, the game will be called Taphouse instead of Taphouse VR. It's everything you know and love - just, more of everything. The new update adds a lot of new features:
Completely rewritten codebase.
Huge increase in performance and stability.
Updated to the latest Unity engine to support standalone VR.
Full OpenXR support. No more weird hands!
Overhauled and optimized art to have even more drunk dwarves on screen.
Career Mode! This new default gamemode has you progress through taverns in order, and you’ll need to be a better bartender in each one to become the ultimate drunken dwarf bartender. You can “Unlock All” in the options, if you prefer to skip the hustle.
Three all new taverns, bringing the total to eight!
New drink recipes.
New dwarves.
Upscaled and updated textures and materials.
The Catland Fidget Spinner DLC is upgraded to the Taphouse Supporter’s Pack, with additional bonuses. Stay tuned for more information!
The update from Taphouse VR to Taphouse will be a huge one. We don’t expect any major issues (the game is even better than before), but if you’re feeling nostalgic you will be able to rollback to the old version of Taphouse VR through Steam Betas (or by getting the original at any time from https://toikka.itch.io/taphousevr)!
What's changing?
We will transition Taphouse to a paid title before the new update. The new Taphouse will cost $7.99 or your regional equivalent.
All current players who have Taphouse VR in their library will receive the new Taphouse for free!
So if you have friends who haven’t experienced the best drunk dwarf bartending simulator on the planet, now’s the time to add it to your Steam library - they’ll get the game for free as well. If you prefer, the original version will be available for free outside Steam at https://toikka.itch.io/taphousevr and as a Steam Beta in Properties of Taphouse.
Free demo coming with the update
After the update drops, we’ll also feature a free demo that features a single tavern and the home area to practice bartending in. So if you miss the transition and don’t have Taphouse VR in your library, you’ll still be able to try out the new version.
Thanking our long time supporters
We are upgrading the Catland Fidget Spinner DLC to the Taphouse Supporter’s Pack with even more goodies. Thank you for supporting Catland! Stay tuned for updates on the goodies we’re adding on top of the already totally not outdated fidget spinners.
Releasing later this year for PCVR and Steam Frame
We intend to release the new Taphouse by the end of the year. The new Taphouse will support standalone VR headsets like the new Steam Frame and other possible headsets, on top of the existing support for PCVR. It’ll be easier than ever to barge drunkenly into the Taphouse.
We’re really excited to bring back the beloved classic and we’re so thankful to the over 65 000 bartenders we’ve served so far. We hope that Taphouse has brought you joy, even if it was in the first heydays of PCVR.
Now that Catland is back, expect even more crazy indie games in the future.
Stay tuned for the new update - we’ll share the release date, tease the new taverns and more up ahead!
