Exploration
Although StoneSpace is, at its heart, a crafting game, exploration plays an equally important role. To craft the hundreds of items you’ll need, you’ll have to journey far from your starting point and gather resources from a variety of biomes.
Each biome has its own identity: a distinct atmosphere, visual tone, and unique selection of raw materials to exploit. Today’s announcement highlights a few of these areas. These are all still works in progress, but they give you a good flavour of the vibrant world you’ll explore in StoneSpace.
The Beach
There are several beaches in the game, but the one shown here is perhaps the most important. The South Beach is where your adventure begins. You awake washed ashore, alone and empty-handed, your lifepod lost somewhere beneath the waves.
You can find rocks and limestone washed ashore, and the cliffs provide a source of sandstone (with the right tools to mine it!).
The Forest
Dense and overgrown, the forest is one of the richest early-game biomes. It’s your primary source of wood, resin, and hardy plants. If you’re fortunate enough to find a gourd plant, its fruit offers both a small meal and a versatile container once hollowed out.
The Plains
The plains are a wide, open expanse, dotted with sporadic trees and bushes providing a handful of early-game resources. Berry bushes provide some small sustenance. Its central location and wide, open spaces also make it a great spot for building a base of operations.
Future biomes
In the full game, you’ll also be able to explore several additional biomes, including a river and surrounding wetlands, a mountain range, a glacier, and a dense jungle. Each will bring its own atmosphere and challenges.
