Regions of Tephra – The Tangle

Great job, Astroneers! You’ve all worked together toward a common goal for the good of the whole crew and unlocked new Landing Sites on Tephra, directly in the Tangle! Crew Members are already eager for us to report as much as we can about what surprises this new corner of the planet might reveal, so it’s a great time to go on an Expedition!

THE TANGLE

This Region opens up Expeditions to a dense jungle area with a centralized plateau that’s characterized by its network of waterfalls and the small cavernous chambers that run throughout it. In addition to the hazards you might already be familiar with from the Wetlands, new creatures stalk the Region, so keep your eyes open!

Preliminary scans have revealed some landmarks that may be worth exploring, including strange-looking rocky spire formations, a steep hilltop with what appear to be fortifications and reports of Carrotling gatherings, and more wreckage from the ESS Elysium that’s of high interest to the crew. Report your findings to the Crew Members aboard the station.

NEW MISSIONS & GEAR

With a new Region to explore, the ESS Starseeker’s Crew Members are at the ready to assign you new Tasks on the Taskboard and new Missions with whole new rewards, as long as you have completed all their Missions in the Wetlands.

Driven Astroneers with luck on their side may have already found some Gliders inside of EXO Caches in the Wetlands or swam all the way to the Tangle, but now you're able to earn the Glider and its crafting Blueprints just by completing your Missions!

In addition to Gliders, new technology may be uncovered! Whether from discoveries on the planet or new Blueprints granted by Crew Members, you’ll find new gear to help with your climbing, moving more stealthily, deforming harder terrain, and new Nozzles for your EXO Multi-Tool! (like a lasso and a way to shoot Spa Water!)

Field Ops – Excavation

It seems that not all of the ESS Elysium wreckage is above ground; some of it has been lodged underground by the impact of the crash. Once you locate the wreckage, keep an eye out for the Inner Door Controls to initiate the Ops and help excavate the door consoles to valuable spoils until the timer runs out; other Astroneers may lend a helping hand. This will reward you with valuable gear and consumable items.

AVAILABLE RESOURCES

Each Region has different Resources; some are even unique to only one Region on the whole planet. The Tangle allows prospecting Astroneers to find deposits of Dolomite, Quartz, and Malachite, in addition to Resin and Compound, which are common to all Regions.

LOCAL CREATURE – GHOST TAIL

The Ghost Tail is a close genetic relative of the Bog Hound. However, what it lacks in the bulk of its evolutionary cousin, the Ghost Tail makes up for in its stealth. This creature’s impeccable camouflage allows it to become nearly invisible so that it may strike ferociously and without warning.

Ghost Tails are lethal killers and should be avoided at all costs.

LOCAL CREATURE – SPEWDER

The Spewder is a persistent insectoid species known for its proclivity to spew Goop projectiles on anything and everything.

This creature has been observer displaying a “celebratory dance” when it covers a target in its Goopy disgorgements.

This is only a preliminary report of what can be found within the Tangle. There’s sure to still be plenty more to discover, so gear up and venture forth! Feel the Force!
