No enemy of the Skirds ever saw this banner twice. It could only be seen when it was raised. It was then lowered into the ground on the enemy's scorched territory.

The banner was kept in a separate wagon, and only the chieftain was allowed to touch it. The occasion for raising it was the killing of a fellow tribesman. But not in battle, for the Skirds valued death in single combat. The banner was raised if a fellow tribesman was killed in an ambush, poisoned, or betrayed. The entire steppe fell silent when the Cry of Revenge rang out over it. And all the Skirds gathered for the righteous campaign.

The banner's history ended on the Skirds' last day. Their chieftain raised the banner and planted it in the ruins of the Erikuriya fortress. This major campaign of conquest was intended to end with the banner being raised over the capital. But breaking Erikuria isn't so easy, and the tribe paid for the destroyed fortress with its very existence. And the Cry of Revenge did indeed appear in the kingdom's capital, in the hall dedicated to the conquered tribes.
