Spellsided changes
If you missed it last fortnight, we’re going to Gamescom! More details over on the announcement post: view
What have we been up to?
Casina City
In just the past two weeks, we were able to get a whole new area - Casina City - in a fully playtestable form. This involved the design and implementation of 2 boss fights, 6 spells, and 8 puzzles working with new mechanics. We’re very happy with this pace! It feels like the groundwork we did for the demo is paying off and we can just seamlessly fill out the rest of the world now.
As a sneak peek, here’s a ridiculous idea we had for a novelty puzzle in Casina City where you get poker chip spells equipped to each of your faces, summoning poker chips of different values which you need to send into goals. The aim is to hit the exact value of the goals. If you bust, you lose! It’s so silly but also so genuinely difficult. (Yes we are using writing desks as placeholder)Steam post image
Controller support
Work on controller support continues, and the latest update now includes controller support on the main menu (bar the options menu), along with some fresh menu animations. Some small tweaks to the main menu have been made to accomodate this.
Gamescom prep
We’ve spun up a production line for some cute fidget toys we’ll be giving away at Gamescom! You'll be able to pick your choice of colour for both Hex and the Cut spell, along with your choice of switch type :)

What’s next?
Next week, we’ll be revisiting Casina Bank, the area built around the Switch spells which we previously showed off at PAX Aus. We’ll mainly just be updating the existing content there and making sure it still works in the context of the levels before it.
Work on controller support will continue with what will hopefully be the final stretch, and we hope to have controller support for the rest of the game in the next update.
A new challenge awaits
A simple combat challenge, but with new tools at your disposal!
The Aces of Clubs are the foes you'll face here. They're basically just mini Goodfellows, like if he only had his dagger attack. When you get close to them, they'll attack you twice with their daggers. Simple as that (animations missing for now)
To deal with them, you're given many of the familiar combat spells, plus some new ones! Heart Charm is a passive spell which gives you an extra life. Lucky Charm is a passive spell which gives you +1 damage, but you lose the effect upon rolling the equipped face (similar to the old Shroud of Scorn spell).
The Hop and Loaded Roll spells also feature here for you to see how they feel in a combat context :)
As always, we’ll post the challenge roundup on Friday, discussing the best scores from the community.
Patch notes
Added Rotating Challenge #5 - Clovers
Added Heart Charm spell
Added Lucky Charm spell
Spectral Sword is now level 2 instead of level 3. This may affect solutions for the Pincushion challenge.
Retriggering Spectral Sword no longer sheathes the blade, as it had bad synergy when stacked with other Trigger spells. This will also probably affect solutions for the Pincushion challenge.
