addedThank you all so much for your support over the last 24 hours. The pixel-art update was a resounding success , and the vast majority of players have been leaving lovely messages of support. We didn’t expect you all to love it so much — sometimes change can be off-putting, but the positive response was just so overwhelming. There have been only a few constructive pieces of criticism. Unfortunately, it turns out that we… may have made a whoopsie. As you know yesterday we announced the biggest SpeedRunners update ever, replacing the visuals with a more pixel-art look. This was based on extensive research that we performed in conjunction with the University of Oxford, and we couldn’t wait for our players to try it out and smother us with praise. Unfortunately, it would appear that we were duped. It has now come to our attention that Oxford, Maryland doesn’t actually have a university. We’re not even sure if the head researcher we worked with, Dr. Massif Wang, is actually a real doctor. Or exists. As a result, we stayed up into the early hours of the morning conducting new research to determine just how off the mark the original analysis had been. It turns out that the previous research was, well, all a bunch of taters. For example, remember that Player Enjoyment graph? Turns out the axes were slightly off. Even the free-to-play research was bogus. Turns out free-to-play games actually suck! Who knew. Good thing we didn’t go ahead with today’s update, and allow you to pay 99c to buy the Golden Hook whenever you needed it. Silver lining and all that. What makes it so upsetting is that we know you all love the new style so much , yet this new research indicates that maybe you love us a bit too much, and are being blinded by your love for tinyBuild and SpeedRunners. As a result, it is with deep regret that we will be reverting the visual style back to its original non-pixelated look later today. We hope you can forgive us on this, the first day of the month of April . Now let’s pretend that this never happened and move on with our lives. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xyl5H5a09f0 Official blog post
