Hello, community of Space Fighters!
Update version 1.0 of Space Fighters is officially out in the wild! With version 1.0 comes a massive overhaul of improvements, changes, and redesigns to the game. Let’s review some of the biggest changes included in update 1.0!
To celebrate update 1.0, Starting from the 7th of July, I have made sure to include a 60% discount which will last for 5 days!
Every UI element in the game has been redesigned and remade from scratch, attributing to a completely new game feel
While I was hard at working rewriting the entire game from scratch, I decided to also take the opportunity to redo the entire game UI which now includes fancy blur background effects, and is more intuitive.
The skybox has been changed with a more flashy, cool looking one
Completely rewritten and rethought every clientside & networking code in the game. This is a big deal because now it will be easier for me to make the appropriate changes where needed and to add or remove new features
The pre-update 1.0 both clientside and networking code was terrible, not up to scratch, and not in accordance with regular Unity and C# convention. This time when I rewrote the entire game from scratch, I made sure to do it differently. Post-update 1.0 code is more efficient, elegant, easier to read and change, up-to-date with Unity and C# conventions, and most importantly, more optimized.
Every single achievement icon has been redone with a more high-quality image and background - as well as brand new achievements being introduced to Space Fighters
The previous versus new 'A Real Team Member' achievement icon I took a look at the previous achievement icons and noticed various things that needed changing. For instance: not all of the icons had the same theme, some icons had low quality images, others had text that was hard to read, etc. So I simply redid every achievement icon, and viola!
New game translation files
The English language translation file has been updated as of this update, so all past translations for other languages won’t be used anymore for this update. If you wish to help translate Space Fighters from English to your own language, read this announcement
But why the big, sudden update so late after everyone has moved on from the game?
Even if Space Fighters wasn't a major hit success, Space Fighters still holds a special place for me because it is my first game on Steam. Although I do look at the playerbase and game purchases and activations graphs and see an obvious fall, I still choose to keep working, and in this case remaking from scratch Space Fighters because I believe Space Fighters still has a chance to get the recognition I think it deserves. Even if this massive overhaul update brings no new players to the game, and I really have just wasted a month working on update 1.0 which no one would play - that would be fine with me too because I don't see it as a month wasted, I see it as a month hard at working gaining further experience and knowledge to be used in future, upcoming games.
Future, upcoming games you say?
Yep! I already have my ideas about the next game which I will begin working on after I completely finish with update 1.0. I would like to keep the game a little secret, but I can say it will be free to play, multiplayer as well as singleplayer, and likewise with Space Fighters it will be set in space. My hope is that releasing this future, free to play game will help to get my name more known out there in the video game making business.
Complete changelist
Redid every UI element
Redid the icons of every achievement in the game, as well as added tons of brand new achievements
Rewrote every clientside/networking code
Reworked healing ship class mechanics. Instead of shooting a beam of healing power into friendly ships. Friendly ships that need healing simply have to be in close proximity to yours.
