Sorrowful Night changes
We are thrilled to announce that Sorrowful Night, our new asymmetrical multiplayer game, is now available on Steam. We are excited for our game to be in the hands of players and look forward to seeing them explore its dark and mysterious world.
About Butterfly Effect - Games Studio
Butterfly Effect - Games Studio is a passionate team based in France. We are currently a small team of two people, but we have big plans for the future of our studio. We are determined to provide quality content for our players and hope to soon recruit to strengthen our team.
Current Early Access game content
Sorrowful Night is currently in Early Access, and we are offering the first version of several key features:
Matchmaking: You can join public matches or create private matches with your friends.
XP System: You can earn XP by completing matches, which allows you to unlock in-game items.
- Villagers6 characters are available, with 2 unlockable through XP.
- Sorcerers2 characters with unique skills are available, with 1 unlockable through XP.
- MapOne map is currently available to play.
Why an Epic Games account is necessary
The game was designed from the beginning of its development to allow cross-play and cross-progression. As soon as the game is available on the Epic Games Store and on consoles, when these versions are ready, you will be able to access your save and your friends list, no matter which platform you connect to. That is why we need a common account, and we have chosen an Epic Games account that works with the Epic Online Services to offer this feature.
Upcoming improvements in development
We are currently working on several improvements for Sorrowful Night:
Matchmaking improvement: We plan to add a feature to indicate that you want to play as a sorcerer prioritized.
Gameplay improvement: We want to make matches more comfortable for players.
Dedicated servers: We plan to switch from peer-to-peer to dedicated servers to improve game stability and performance.
Support for ultra-wide resolutions: We want to support 21:9 and 32:9 resolutions to provide a better gaming experience for players with an ultra-wide monitor.

Optimization tips
We have done our best to optimize the game, but due to our small team, there may be performance issues for some players. If you experience low FPS, we recommend switching shadows to low to improve performance. We have also integrated Nvidia DLSS and AMD FidelityFX Super Resolution 2.2 technologies to help improve performance.
Plans for the future of Sorrowful Night
We have many plans for the future of Sorrowful Night:
Written/Voice chat system: We plan to add a chat system to facilitate communication between players.
Villager skills: We plan to give each character their own skill to help players face the challenges of the game.
- Regular content additionsWe plan to regularly add content to the game with new rewards, maps, and of course new villagers and sorcerers.
Competitive matchmaking: We are also looking to integrate a competitive matchmaking system so that you can measure your level and be matched with players of a similar skill level.
Current priority
We want to prioritize optimization and bug fixes, as being a small team, our internal testing capabilities are limited, and that's why we need your help to locate and eradicate potential bugs in Sorrowful Night. We will also take all feedback into consideration regarding improvement suggestions for the game, whether it be modification or even adding new content that we may not have thought of without you. To report any issues, we have set up a Discord server, but we will also be paying close attention to Steam discussions.
