Slime Squadron: Harpy Raiders changes
A word from Nubuky
This is Missioner Nubuky speaking. I wish to tell you a story.
A long time ago, there lived a race of gelatinous creatures: The slimes, as they came to be known. They were weak, susceptible creatures whose lives were valued by absolutely no one. In fact, most humans cared more if they were dead. A dead Slime was one less monster in the wild, harassing travelers and getting things all slimy. Moreover, a Slime's gel is highly flammable: And as such, it was custom for those adventuring through the wild to slay a few slimes in order to use their corpse as fuel.
For hundreds of years, the Slime kingdom was to be colonized and divided by humanity. When the royal line finally ended after decades of stagnant rule, the slimes were left even more vulnerable. Hungry and in need of a new leader.
From out of the wilderness, salvation came. A pink slime who called herself Pinky, who spoke of her persecution by human poachers. Yet, against all odds, she had survived. Her experience had birthed within her small form the kindled flame of vengeance.
Pinky won the support of the slimes' feudal military. And though it was too weak to stand up to the vast mechanized armies of mankind, it was more than enough to win the civil war against the remnants of the Slime Monarchy's civil administration. With the military triumphant, soon came the establishment of a new, enlightened society. For the first time, slimes were building factories, moving out of forests and into cities. Even the most Slimephobic of humans, most narrow-minded of Hornetfolk and most stuck-up of Harpies marveled at the breakneck speed of their industrialization.
But of course, all the improvements in the quality of living was a means to an end. That end was REVENGE. And so, in the waning years of the second era, we marched on the human settlements in Miraki and Nikala Sorendy. Our newly christened Lord Pinky began what would be known today as the Great Slime War.
Eventually, our rapid advance was pushed back by a humanity united under the banner of the King of Hallowstone. In the climactic final battle, a nameless human hero confronted our Lord, and legends say, slew her in single combat.
There was no true victor in the war. The humans were devastated, and us arguably moreso. Even the other races were not spared. But with no side strong enough to persecute or occupy the other, we all signed an armistice.
And so, the Slime Army survives as the sole civil and military administration of all Slimekind to this day. In the postwar years, it pursued a policy of reconciliation and liberalization. But to some, it was simply a different crusade across the world - an economic conquest, in which cheap Slime labor is sent to infiltrate every strata of society, taking away precious jobs from the locals, amongst other things. What an insidious, poisonous lie!
That is of course, not to say that WE haven't had any military endeavours since the war. We've had to engage in numerous policies of protecting our own sovereign rights, and that of our species: The Desert Mountain Campaigns, still ongoing, comes to mind. And though we're mostly on neutral terms with humanity now, the same cannot be said for a new threat: The Harpies.
These perfidious birdmen have had a regime change too, and now, they seek to steal the latest and greatest of our technology, that we have gone to painstaking lengths to research and obtain. I guess that's why you and I are here. We have to show the world once more, that the slime race is NOT to be trifled with. And if that drunkard Yelouvant is to be believed, it'll start with the raid on Fort Featherstone.
So yeah. I'll see you later ensign. All glory to the Slime Army!
An Update on the Game
Hey, Linx145 here. I've been hard at work getting things up and running. The demo is now 50-60% complete, and there are only two subregions left to go before I enter the fine tuning stage. I'm confidant that I'll be able to complete them in the coming weeks, and work on our very own demo bossfight.
Next week, I wish to detail the first of many devlogs explaining my progress, as well as the Slime combat system present in the game and my goals for it.
Until then! -Linx145
