Welcome back to the second post in our System Spotlight series! In this series, we'll be diving into some of the core mechanics that bring Sil and the Fading World to life.

This time around, we’ll be taking a closer look at the Relic & Soul Crystal system — a powerful feature that gives you deep control over your character’s build and playstyle. Let’s dive in.

🏺 Relic — A Vessel of Power

At the heart of this system is the Relic, a one-of-a-kind piece of equipment that serves as a vessel for Soul Crystals. Unlike traditional gear, the Relic is unique and there are no variations or alternate versions. Every player will have access to the same Relic, but its true strength comes from the Soul Crystals you choose to slot into it.

Once slotted, Soul Crystals are activated automatically, effectively turning the Relic into a customizable MMO-style trinket that triggers powerful effects during combat.

💎 Soul Crystals – Fragments of Slain Souls

Soul Crystals are fragments of the souls of fallen enemies — crystallized splinters of their essence. Each Soul Crystal holds a specific ability or effect that can be triggered when certain conditions are met.

Conditions & Effects

Every Soul Crystal is defined by two key elements:

  • Condition – The specific trigger that needs to be met for the effect to activate. Conditions can be tied to your actions, enemy behavior, or combat outcomes. Here are a couple examples:

    • "10% chance to spawn X when applying a bleed to an enemy."

    • "25% chance on critical strike to deal AoE damage."

    • "30% Chance when you block an attack to increase armor by X% for 5 seconds."

    • "100% Chance on Potion use to gain X for 10 seconds."

  • Effect – The reward or outcome when the condition is met. Effects vary from simple damage procs to complex utility and game-changing mechanics.

    • Direct damage (e.g., explosions, chain lightning, projectiles)

    • Buffs (e.g., increased attack speed, armor, lifesteal)

    • Summons (e.g., spawning minions or constructs)

    • Utility (e.g., movement speed, cooldown reduction, damage mitigation)

But there are also special relics that come from the hardest content in the game.

Raidboss Soul Crystals

Some of the most powerful Soul Crystals come from the strongest enemies — the raidbosses.

When you defeat a raidboss, it will drop a Soul Crystal containing one of its signature abilities, allowing you to make a devastating boss ability your own.

What makes this system shine is the potential for synergy. Certain conditions and effects naturally complement each other, allowing you to create powerful, chain-triggering setups.

And with that, we wrap up this sneak peek into Sil and the Fading World's Relic & Soul Crystal system! Since the game is still in development, some of the details here may change, but rest assured — we’ll keep you updated every step of the way.
