In 1592, Japan invaded the Joseon on Korean Peninsula, initiating the Imjin War. Despite eventually repelling the Japanese forces after a long and arduous conflict, Joseon fell into disarray due to the aftermath of the war. Bandits emerged across the land, and corrupt officials exploited the chaos to plunder the people.

In an effort to rectify this situation, an unnamed Seonbi embarked on the path.
