Repeated intro

Hey folks! We’ve been hard at work since announcing the game, and wanted to show off some of our progress. Let’s take a peek!

What changed

0 fixes1 addition3 changes0 removals
  • Gameplay
  • Performance
  • Maps
changedFirst up is the reveal of the final two playable character classes for the game; the Pod Person and the Detergilist! The Pod Person can spawn a clone of herself that mirrors her movements and attacks things in its path for a limited amount of turns.
changedIf you prefer to let your fists do the talking, the Detergilist may look chill, but his Crystal Crash lets him barrel through enemies for short distances, doing damage and getting out of tight spots.
addedAll of these classes also have access to a whole slew of different perks that can be selected when you level up between stages. The options you’re given are drawn from a pool of random upgrades that range from simple boosts to stats like health, to more complex abilities that will let you jump farther or equip multiple weapons at once.
changedWe’ve also done a lot of work this month on general gameplay balancing and mechanics. We’re working on making each stage a little more dangerous by including traps that can snare you and enemies, as well as having some lasting consequences for individual runs if you let the overall grime in the house reach a certain threshold. While Scrubbin’ Trubble is designed for shorter play sessions compared to some roguelikes, we want to ensure it still has the variety and challenge players expect from the genre.

We’re also working on more enemies for the game, which involves a fair amount of iteration. Take a look at the Bug Bear’s sketch vs final sprite. There’s a fair amount of creepy-cute in Scrubbin’ Trubbles roster of Nasties, and we think the Bug Bear definitely leans more towards the latter. Please don’t try and hug him if you value all your limbs.

We’ll go into that and more next time, but for now, thank you for your support, and don’t forget to wishlist us if you haven’t already!
