addedSteam post image Happy Friday and welcome to the biggest performance optimization we ever did! With this update, we reprogrammed and restructured the whole project from the ground up. We took our core systems like the building editor, the driving physics and the vehicle calculation, and reassembled them freshly. We also deleted all ancient assets that were still in the project, and we reimported all the assets that are actually included in the game. All in all, we managed to reduce the RAM usage, increased FPS and reduced loading times by some margin. And most importantly, if the game did not start for you at all, now it might actually work! We hope you enjoy this sleek new version of Screw Drivers . Now that we got performance figured out, you can expect a lot of cool new features and content coming up next 🙂 And here are all the changes (hopefully, if I haven't forgotten any):
changedGeneralWe completely reworked all menus and UI. The menus are now separate from each other, which means that the game sometimes has to load for some short time, but this reduces the total RAM usage of the game.
addedBuildingWe completely reworked the X-menu. It now actually spawns your vehicle, which you can then actually test a little bit. This feature is still not finished, we plan to add more live telemetry data like suspension travel, live wind resistance, live downforce and so on.
addedDrivingYou can now view the minimap in fullscreen by pressing 'M'.
fixedBug fixesWhen changing the keybinding of headlights, the car would not calculate. This should be fixed.
fixedBug fixesThe green-gears bug should now finally be gone, but who knows, maybe it comes back some day?

We hope you enjoy this sleek new version of Screw Drivers. Now that we got performance figured out, you can expect a lot of cool new features and content coming up next 🙂 And here are all the changes (hopefully, if I haven't forgotten any):

General

  • We completely reworked all menus and UI. The menus are now separate from each other, which means that the game sometimes has to load for some short time, but this reduces the total RAM usage of the game.

Building

  • We completely reworked the X-menu. It now actually spawns your vehicle, which you can then actually test a little bit. This feature is still not finished, we plan to add more live telemetry data like suspension travel, live wind resistance, live downforce and so on.

Driving

  • You can now view the minimap in fullscreen by pressing 'M'.

  • We reprogrammed all camera modes. They aren't perfect yet, so feel free to try them out and let us know, which one you like most so we can improve those even more.

Bug fixes

  • When changing the keybinding of headlights, the car would not calculate. This should be fixed.

  • The green-gears bug should now finally be gone, but who knows, maybe it comes back some day?

And we fixed many many more bugs. I can't list them all, because some bugs just will be fixed because of the whole restructuring of the project. Any new bugs you encounter, please report them to us on discord, steam or by carrier pigeon. Thank you all for playing Screw Drivers and for being part of the best community!
