Rocket Panda Panic changes
It's finally that time. GuMa Games have collectively sunk into our comfy chairs having completed Rocket Panda Panic's game content. It's been a busy 10 months but we've loved every second of it. Seeing an idea we had in November 2019 appearing on Steam in August 2020 is an incredible feeling.
It's amazing to look over our current work and compare it to the GameJam where this all started. Back in February, before lockdown, (ah simpler times) an excited Matt arrived at Glyndwr University, ready to start a 3 day development marathon. We'd had the idea a few months earlier, but no opportunity to prototype the mechanics. After several months of discussing the idea, it was really exciting to finally get it into the Unreal Engine. As Matt setup at Glyndwr UK, Glea was setting up her own workspace in Davao Philippines. Soon we were given the theme - reconstruction. This inspired the Lincoln Memorial objective seen in level 1. It wouldn't be until a few months later, that torn down statues became so satirical.
The Global Game Jam event has inspired 1000's of developers to set out on new exciting projects. It's not just for coders either. Anyone with an interest in gaming can join the fray and help in one way or another. If you've never attended one, we strongly recommend giving it a go. You'll love the creative energy in the room and it's a great way to build experience. https://globalgamejam.org/
Soon after the GameJam, the plan was to setup the GuMa Games offices in Davao City Philippines. However, a certain virus had other plans! Suddenly trapped apart, we worried whether our game was even possible. Luckily our experiences during the GameJam had helped us to setup remote working practices. We continued throughout summer to focus on this way of working. We're pleased to say we're only a few days off the original schedule of release.
Today we submitted Rocket Panda Panic to Steamworks so Valve can run their checks on the game. We've no doubt it'll all be approved. That means you'll be playing Rocket Panda Panic on 7 September 2020. We can't wait to let you all give it a go. Add to your Steam Wishlist so you don't miss out.
