My June Update: Meet Kyo, Ride the Hoverbike, and Conquer Wave Defense!

Hey everyone, this is Taki, the solo dev of Remnant Blade! It’s been around a month since the last update announcement and quite a few things have been done to improve the game experience.

This month for Steam Next Fest, I wanted to add a completely new experience to make the demo feel fresh again. Introducing the guy from the main cover: Kyo!

New Playable Character: Kyo

Kyo is an Iaido swordsman who specializes in quick-draw slash techniques. He features 3 distinct stances that can be triggered with the universal stance switch button (L1 / Tab).

Each stance features a signature color where the lights on Kyo’s armor shift between cyan, purple, and orange. Every stance has a unique set of heavy attacks performed by holding the heavy attack button (Triangle / Right Mouse Button) and releasing. Different heavy attacks are performed the longer the button is held (featuring 2 charge levels total).

Holding the charge all the way to its limit will unleash Kyo's ultimate attack!

  • Cyan Stance (Default): A purely grounded, melee-focused stance best used for locking down a single enemy.

    • Hold 1: A short flurry slash ending in a launcher.

    • Hold 2: A charged forward rush ideal for closing the distance instantly.

  • Purple Stance (AoE): Kyo's area-of-effect stance. Each attack targets everything in his frontal area with medium-range coverage.

    • Hold 1: A boomerang projectile throw.

    • Hold 2: A large AoE slash that inflicts short damage-over-time (DoT).

  • Orange Stance (Ranged): Kyo's ranged stance, unleashing powerful projectile wave slashes toward his target.

    • Hold 1: Launches a stacked wave of slashes all at once.

    • Hold 2: Launches a stationary wave slash that continuously damages enemies over time.

Deflect & Counter Mechanics

Holding the ability button (R2 / F) puts Kyo into a deflect mode where he will auto-deflect incoming attacks.

If you release the button right before an attack hits, you will perform a Heavy Parry. This stuns the enemy and briefly slows down time for everyone. Pressing heavy attack during this time-slow triggers a devastating counter slash, followed by an additional burst of damage-over-time when Kyo sheathes his weapon.

Summon Rinne’s Hoverbike!

Another massive addition is Rinne’s bike! Hold the stance swap button (L1 / Tab) for a few seconds to summon it into battle. * Shift / R2 to accelerate * Left Click / R1 to fire onboard weapons

Unlimited Wave & Area Defense Mode

Rinne’s stage has been transformed into an unlimited wave attack mode! Enemies will continue spawning endlessly as you thin them out. To match the chaos, enemy defense has been significantly lowered so you can step into the shoes of an absolute warlord—an unstoppable force taking out enemy after enemy. If you get lazy, just hop on the Hoverbike and splatter them!

The stage now doubles as an Area Defense Mode. You'll see a red and blue bar tracking Conduits vs. Behemoths. * The huge circle in the middle of the map is your zone to defend. * If enemies stand inside the circle, they add to the red bar. * If you knock them out of the zone or launch them into the air, the bar decreases!

Boss Timers & Medals

Added just before this patch, I introduced performance medals and a boss timer. If you can defeat the Wolf King in under 1 minute, you'll earn a shiny gold medal!

Check out an example of the fight in action below:

Bug Fixes & Community Guides

Aside from the headline features, there have been various bug fixes applied behind the scenes. You can view the full breakdown in the Patch Notes & Bug Fixes section of our General Discussion forums, where you'll also find comprehensive character guides!

What's Next?

One small feature I’m planning to potentially drop during Next Fest is a starter functionality for Loot. I'm looking to set it up so collected loot permanently adds to your universal Attack, Flux, and Defense stats—which all characters share. That way, the more you play the demo, the stronger you'll naturally get. Look out for a small patch adding this soon!

Hope you guys enjoy all the new content! Let me know what you think of Kyo and the Hoverbike in the comments!
