Today I’m going to be talking about updates to our EA roadmap, the game’s release date, as well as progress on a number of new features that we’ve added since our last post.
changedI’d like to start off by talking about an important decision we’ve made to implement a number of key features at launch that were originally planned as updates for early access. Ultimately we want players to have the very best possible experience from day 1, so Recipe for Disaster will now include the following at release:
addedRestrooms Add facilities and objects for the comfort and convenience of your customers and staff.
addedIf you caught our last update video you’ll know that we’ve already added employee skill progression and perks, dynamic events, changes to how recruitment works, a uniform editor and grouping tool, localisation, and initial steam workshop support.

EA roadmap changes & release update

I’d like to start off by talking about an important decision we’ve made to implement a number of key features at launch that were originally planned as updates for early access. Ultimately we want players to have the very best possible experience from day 1, so Recipe for Disaster will now include the following at release:

Mini campaign Take on a variety of challenges in a multistage narrative driven campaign.

Upgradeable appliances Equip your kitchen with appliances that range from basic to professional and affect dish quality.

Restrooms Add facilities and objects for the comfort and convenience of your customers and staff.

Cleaning Staff must keep on top of cleaning floors, surfaces, and appliances to maintain high review scores.

Fire Disasters Contend with the first major disaster, restaurant fires!

If you caught our last update video you’ll know that we’ve already added employee skill progression and perks, dynamic events, changes to how recruitment works, a uniform editor and grouping tool, localisation, and initial steam workshop support.

We’re also currently refining the staff welfare system and how breaking points work, but we’ll come back to that in our next post.

So the new updated EA roadmap currently looks like this:

Note that during early access we plan to expand the campaign, and add more dynamic events and disasters!.

Unfortunately this additional content will take time to implement which means that we have had to make the difficult call to push release back to Q4 2021 (the exact date will be announced in a few weeks time). We appreciate that this will be disappointing news for some of you but hope that you’ll understand our reasoning.

Changes to table placement

We’ve recently been working hard on improving the system for placing tables in build mode. Those of you that played our demo will know that previously tables and chairs needed to have all surrounding tiles clear in order to be placed. This restriction created problems when building walls before placing objects and meant that large areas of the restaurant’s dining areas were not being utilised efficiently.

With the new system we’ve amended these placement rules so that you can now freely build tables and chairs anywhere within the restaurant, even up against walls!

This change will mean that you’ll be able to accommodate many more customers within a smaller restaurant, and optimise the placement of decorative objects. Table placement and usage will also influence the cleaning mechanic once it's implemented, and we’ll be sharing specifics on that in our next post.

Updates: New restroom models and character animations

With restrooms now arriving at launch our art team has been working on some brand new models and textures to bring these new facilities to life, check out the black marble tiles!

We’ve also started work on new character animations for cleaning actions, disasters, and staff breakdowns.

Some interesting gestures there...

Well that’s it for today but if you do have any questions please comment on this post or visit our Discord
