Repeated intro
Hello everyone! I was planning on releasing an update for the 2 year anniversary five months from now in August, but then I finished it early and decided to release it now... for the 1.5 year anniversary instead. That's just as important a milestone, right?!
What changed
- Gameplay
- UI and audio
Recesses changes
This update comes with four new cards in the main game, some buffs to old cards, and a few new post-game things. If you want a breakdown of the updates, then read on.
To confirm you're playing on the latest Version 1.2 (or higher), open Recesses and go to Game Options and check the upper left corner. If it's a lower version, just restart Steam and it should update automatically.
NEW CARDS
These four new cards each aim to put cool-but-not-very-strong cards in the spotlight, and boost strategies that needed some help. Here's all four of them:
If you want to explore them on your own, go for it! But if you want more details on the thought process behind them, here's some details on each card.
(There are spoilers in the explanations, so it's recommended to not read the spoilers if you haven't finished the game yet.)
Created to give fan-favorite cards like Puuts Peptalker and Oowoo Playlanx a reason to be played beyond the very early game. - Gives mono-Cute ships some card advantage potential when paired with Puuts Buffsinger. - I wonder what happens when it gains a strength to
Elder...
Lethoggl Doozer is a fan-favorite card that falls off after the early game... but that's only if you can play one. What if you can play seven?! - Varies up strategies for Battaliens that put more cards in your ship. - Wouldn't it just be hilarious if an opponent's card somehow gained this ability?
Mono-Scary was the weakest of all the mono-type ships, so this gives it a bit of a boost. - Scary also lacked a good turn-one play against
Elders
, but this one is very strong. - Gross sacrifice-ships were already strong, but now this gives a reason to build a Scary sacrifice-ship too!
Mono-Weird was also a pretty weak strategy, so this gives it a boost. - Weird also lacked a good turn-one play against
Elders
beyond Cnyr7w Static-Orb, so this one gives another option. - Ob'itzan Glarer is one of the weakest cards with an ability in the game, but transforming your opponents into them puts it in the spotlight!
These four cards can be obtained normally as you progress through the game. To find out how to specifically obtain them, click/hover over the spoiler below.
You can open Oowoo Shy Boi and Brepch Dung-Doozer from the very start. Ignix Sanity-Searer and Ob'itzan Threeeyes (as well as Phlek Plaguegerm and Ignix Fearfire) are in booster packs after encountering Joey. This is because they all require mono-type ships, so you should have enough cards of one type by then. They appear at the same rarity as normal rare cards.
If you don't want to wait, there are cheat codes to add each one to your collection. To enter a cheat code, go to the main menu, press enter, then type the code, then press enter again. If you hear a sound effect, you did it right and the card is in your collection.
To get Oowoo Shy Boi enter the cheat code "thepowerofintroverts" - To get Brepch Dung-Doozer, enter the cheat code "beepbeepbeep" - To get Ignix Sanity-Searer, enter the cheat code "suchwonderfulthingstoshowyou" - To get Ob'itzan Threeeyes, enter the cheat code "getweirdwithyourhomies"
Since it wouldn't be fair if only *you* got to use the new cards in battle, I've added them to some of the opponents' ships throughout the game.
I've only added the cards to ships that already changed each time you faced them (opponents with non-changing ships did not get them), and they only use the new ships about 25% of the time. To see where, click/hover over the spoiler below:
(Spoilers for late game battles are included, so it's recommended not to read if you haven't finished the game yet.)
Level 1 Joey can have any one of the four - Level 1 Mr. Whittier can have Oowoo Shy Boi - Level 2 Eugene can have Brepch Dung-Doozer or Oowoo Shy Boi - Level 2 Joey can have Oowoo Shy Boi - Level 3 Syryna/Emily can have Ignix Sanity-Searer or Ob'itzan Threeeyes - Level 3 Mixed Goatee can have Oowoo Shy Boi
CARD BUFFS
I've also buffed these four cards a bit:
Tel-maq Mirrorcube is now 6 power (was 4). The card was rarely played at 4 power, since Tel-maq Nullshape was almost always a better choice. Now there are some circumstances where this one is better. Plus it's a flavor win: six power for a cube's six sides!
Ob'itzan Eyeroller is now 7 power (was 5). Another buff to mono-Weird ships. It was almost never played before, even in mono-Weird, but now it's definitely in consideration.
Ignix Heathowler is now 5 power (was 4). Being at 5 power lets it trade with 9-power enemies if it buffs itself, which is a good place for it to be.
Kahaz Darkwhisper now doesn't check for Scary Battaliens in your black hole too. Its ability wasn't strong enough to justify the more difficult restriction. This also buffs mono-Scary and Sevir Recruiter a bit.
POST-GAME CHANGES
I've made a few adjustments to post-game content. Spoilers of course, so don't read this if you haven't rolled credits yet.
You now unlock Ith-Tcch's Agony and Ossh'am's Despair after beating mono-type Level 2 Empty Collection runs. (Previously you unlocked them after getting *all* achievements in the game.)
Spoilers for SUPER post-game content. I don't recommend reading if you haven't gotten all achievements yet:
You now unlock NEW cards with the cheat codes given to you by Alan, Ms. Raven, and Mr. Whitter. (Previously they gave you Ith-Tcch's Agony, Ossh'am's Despair, and Captain Eugene.) Now they give you card versions of themselves, and Eugene gives you Captain Eugene.
For God Eugene's spaceship, Joey Datasnatcher and Tatiana Moldmaster have had their abilities buffed to "go first."
A new post-post-game battle has been added. After you defeat God Eugene, check Practice Mode for something that may have changed. If you defeat this opponent, you will get a Steam Achivement.
As always, I've playtested the changes as much as I can, but I'm sure I've missed some stuff. If you run into any bugs or have any other questions/comments, let me know in the Steam forums.
Thank you again for playing! -Sanjuny
