Ready for Riot changes
Hello there Officers!
Welcome back to the development log for Ready for Riot. In this edition, we'll be diving into the exciting world of special effects and lighting, two critical components that enhance the immersion and visual appeal of our cooperative online shooter.
Concept and Inspiration
People keep asking me: why Ready for Riot looks so good? ;) I'm flattered and i can answer yes, its really on the game engine ! (Unity3D) The secert is our very talented team ;) In this devlog i will show you some creative process.
Light, camera... ACTION!
Lighting is a powerful tool that sets the mood, enhances the atmosphere, and adds realism to the game world. Our lighting guy has employed various techniques to create visually stunning environments like Real-time Global Illumination or Dynamic Lighting.
It's not an easy job, it's more like making a movie than a game. Games nowadays are closer to the movies industry than ever, believe me :D
Light, camera... EXPLOSION!
See this expolosion? It started small in editor. It looked like this:
Lightmaps are pre-calculated textures that store lighting information for static objects in a scene. By utilizing lightmaps, we can achieve realistic lighting effects, including the illumination resulting from explosions. Now see the one with more "fiery" lightmaps
Compare them to the one in the game! It's the same one ;) To create visually stunning explosions, we need to employ a combination of particle effects, shaders, and textures. The explosion's appearance is carefully crafted to evoke a sense of power, intensity, and chaos. Sometimes you see an explosion in the game for only a fraction of time but there is a lot of work behind it :D
So, are you ready? Ready for Riot!
Best regards, Baked Games Team
