changedIt's been a crazy year. I released RC Match 3 at the end of April, 2023, and after making a few fixes, we quickly arrived at Fall 2023. Unfortunately, I was using the Unity engine for game development, and in September 2023, Unity made some...questionable business decisions. Though they wound up walking back many of those decisions, it is not the first time this has happened, and I have decided to quit the Unity ecosystem entirely.
addedI think that the new version looks even better than the old one, and I was able to fix several issues that were more difficult to wrangle before, such as a slight misalignment of the rows when they shifted.
removedI will be making some adjustments to the theme options for the game. With testing and feedback, several of the choices have proven to be unnecessary and sometimes in pretty serious conflict. I will likely be removing the individual options to change the background, board color, and symbols; I plan to replace these with preset theme combinations.
addedI also aim to include a small help screen to briefly show new players how the game is played, as it is somewhat different than the most popular match-3 games.

Fortunately, the open-source Godot 4 game engine has proven to be far better for me than Unity ever was. I have spent the last several months learning Godot and rebuilding RCM3 from the ground up. The Version 2 update is coming along nicely, and should be available for download at the end of July!

A preview of changes:

  • I think that the new version looks even better than the old one, and I was able to fix several issues that were more difficult to wrangle before, such as a slight misalignment of the rows when they shifted.

  • I will be making some adjustments to the theme options for the game. With testing and feedback, several of the choices have proven to be unnecessary and sometimes in pretty serious conflict. I will likely be removing the individual options to change the background, board color, and symbols; I plan to replace these with preset theme combinations.

  • I also aim to include a small help screen to briefly show new players how the game is played, as it is somewhat different than the most popular match-3 games.

  • Unfortunately I do not believe that I will be able to carry over save data, so upon updating, previous high scores and saved games will be lost.

Thanks for sticking with me, and I'll talk to you again at the end of July! ~Carrie
