Frontline Report: Breaking the silence after a long time

Hello everyone,

It has been a long time since Update 0.4.1. We have been completely silent, but for a very good reason. Over the past few months, we haven't just been patching Quadrillion— we have rebuilt approximately 95% of the game from the ground up. As developers, we took a hard look at our original vision. We realized that to truly capture the terrifying, oppressive atmosphere of World War I, we needed to make radical changes. The true horror of the Great War wasn't supernatural monsters—it was the war itself.

Here is exactly what we’ve been working on, why the game looks and plays completely differently, and what you can expect in the "new" Quadrillion.

🌑 Goodbye Lovecraft, Hello Realistic Horror

We have officially dropped the retro-style graphics, the zombies, and the Lovecraftian monsters. We transitioned entirely to realistic 3D models and environments. The horror is now grounded in reality, focusing on the dark, muddy, and brutal atmosphere of a real WWI battlefield.

🧠 Dynamic PTSD & Psychological System

War takes a toll on the mind, and we want you to feel that. We’ve implemented a complex PTSD/Stress System that tracks your psychological state:

  • Stress Increases: When you are under heavy fire, surviving mortar strikes, caught in gas attacks, or when you execute an enemy who is trying to surrender. Getting betrayed by a surrendering enemy will also cause a massive stress spike!

  • Stress Decreases: You can manage your mental health by eating, reading, showing mercy to surrendering soldiers, or simply sitting down and talking to friendly NPCs.

🎭 Unpredictable AI & "Fake Surrender" Tactics

Our AI has been completely overhauled. Enemies now feel human. They can get wounded, swear at you, or beg for their lives. Most importantly, they can surrender. * Trust no one: If an enemy drops their weapon, you must disarm them. If you just turn your back, they might pick their gun right back up and shoot you.

  • Randomized Spawns: Enemy encounters are fully dynamic. Even we, as the developers, don't know exactly where the AI will spawn during your playthrough. Nowhere is safe.

☠️ Dynamic Hazards: Mortars & Poison Gas

Death can come from anywhere. The battlefield features a dynamic, randomized mortar system—artillery and gas strikes happen unpredictably.

  • You will face Chlorine, Phosgene, and Mustard Gas (Yperit).

  • You have a gas mask, but remember your history: it functions realistically. A mask won't protect your skin from Mustard Gas.

📖 A New Storyline & Cinematic Immersion

You now step into the boots of a Czechoslovak Legionnaire who, after a brutal attack, finds himself lost in a British trench.

  • Full Voice Acting & Lip-Sync: Characters now speak, bringing the grim world to life.

  • Branching Paths: Your actions matter. For example, how you handle certain situations will trigger completely different cutscenes.

  • Lore Events: Take a break from the shooting, sit down in a safe zone, and listen to the tragic or hopeful stories of friendly NPCs.

⚔️ Expanded Arsenal & Interactivity

  • The Bayonet Controller: Run out of ammo? Enemy too close? You can now use your bayonet as a standalone melee weapon or attach it directly to your rifle.

  • Grenades: Throw explosives that can slightly alter and damage the environment.

  • Interactive MinigamesWe’ve added fully playable mechanics to break up the tension. You can operate a realistic French 75mm artillery cannon . We are also actively working on a fully playable Chess minigame (currently 60% done) and plan to add card games soon.
  • Massive, Treacherous Maps: The trenches are long, confusing, and packed with hidden historical items and easter eggs.

What’s Next?

This is just the beginning of our new direction. There are even more features we’ve added, but we will save those for the next update!

We know the wait has been long, but rewriting 95% of a game as a two-man studio took everything we had. Thank you for your incredible patience, your feedback, and for sticking with us.

To give you a better idea of what we've been working on, we are adding a few screenshots of the new visual direction below. We can't wait for you to experience the true nightmare of the trenches.

Stay safe, RE:WOLVES Studio

FAQ: The "New" Quadrillion

Q: Why did you remove the zombies and Lovecraftian monsters? A: As we developed the game, we realized that adding fictional monsters actually took away from the terrifying reality of the trenches. The true horror of World War I was the mud, the gas, the artillery, and the psychological destruction. We wanted to honor that history and create a raw, psychological survival horror experience that feels real.

Q: Is Quadrillion still a horror game? A: Absolutely. However, the type of horror has evolved. Instead of jumpscares from supernatural creatures, you will experience the constant, suffocating dread of war. Unpredictable mortar strikes, claustrophobic trenches, gas attacks, and the heavy toll on your character's sanity will keep you on edge at all times.

Q: Will my old save files work with this new version? A: Because we have rebuilt roughly 95% of the game’s core systems, levels, and mechanics, previous save files will unfortunately not be compatible. You will need to start a fresh playthrough to experience the new storyline and mechanics.

Q: Will the price of the game increase after such a massive update? A: We cannot confirm or deny a price change at this moment. However, we can guarantee one thing: anyone who has already purchased the game (or buys it before the update) will continue to own it and will receive this massive update at no additional cost.

Q: When can we play this new version? A: We don't have an exact release date just yet, but we can officially confirm that it will be released this year— in 2026.

Q: Are you planning a re-release (creating a new Steam page and launching it as a "new" game)? A: We are still exploring our options regarding how to release this massive overhaul, and we aren't entirely sure yet. However, if we do decide to create a new Steam page, we guarantee that everyone who already owns the "old" Quadrillion will receive a free Steam key for the new version. In that scenario, the sale of the old version would end, but existing owners would keep it in their libraries and could still play it. Plus, as a massive "thank you" for your early support, we would give those original owners two unused, early-development versions of the game as an exclusive bonus!
