Princess Hunter changes
It's been a while since our last news update, but not because there was nothing worth writing about. We've been busy preparing a build for our new trailer which we really want to share with you just before this year ends or soon after the new year begins!
We've set ourselves a task not to create just a video reel, but to include as much real-game footage as possible into it, so that you could see what the game really looks and plays like. Therefore, our main goal was to make the latest build both atmospheric and pleasing to the eye.
Reflections
There are plenty of various pools in Wyrdwood—one location is even called the "Lake Valley"! Up until now they've been providing the lush greenery with water, but still looked too static and dull. Not anymore!
We proudly present revamped water to you, full of life, motion, and reflections! We've even written a special shader, and now water matches the style of other graphics in Princess Hunter.
Critters
Surely, our plans to make the surroundings look more alive went beyond water. We decided to populate Wyrdwood not only with dangerous enemies and talkative NPCs, but with ordinary animals as well.
Currently, the list of animals comprises several types of amphibians, some birds (including a cute-as-hell goatsucker), and a bunch of butterflies. These butterflies vary in color and even can follow pretty complicated flight paths.
We're planning to increase the biodiversity of forest life and even add some interactivity to it!
The Camp
The campfire scene, however, took the most time. In static form, we made it a long time ago, but it still lacked an animated campfire and characters around it. Besides, we wanted to add real lighting.
This last task proved to be a tough one, since we were not satisfied with the quality of ready-made solutions for 2D scenes. That's why we had to experiment here, too, and write new shaders that would suit our needs. As has been mentioned above, it took us really much time, but the end result exceeded our expectations!
This illumination (all frames have been drawn by hand and have gone through many iterations) gave us the opportunity to see the camp in a completely new light ;) Add to this a gorgeous background music written specifically for this scene, and it would seem as if you really could feel the wavering warmth and smell the smoke.
