Pongspin changes
Hi!
So, it's been a while, nearly three years since Pongspin's Steam release to be exact! We apologize for our absence, but I'm happy to announce that we are back in action with a new major update coming next month!
Initially, we revealed Pongspin v3.0 as "Labyrinth", a relaxed, point-and-click adventure mode of sorts that placed you in control of the ball itself, slowly moving through a maze of moveable paddles, interactable NPCs and simple puzzles. This form of the update has since been shelved.
As development progressed, we felt that the scope of the Labyrinth game mode caused an imbalance with the rest, which were shorter and more arcade-focused, but most of all, it simply wasn't fun.
We apologize to those who had been looking forward to Labyrinth, however, we hope that the new Pongspin v3.0 will be even more exciting!
And after having shown off a playable demo of Pongspin v3.0 at Game Con Canada 2026, we feel it is the right time to share what we've been working on!
Local + online multiplayer!?
For starters, Pongspin v3.0 will introduce controller support along with local and online multiplayer. Yes, you read that right, you will soon be able to play against friends both near and far in Spin Tennis and a new 4-player game mode called Quadspin.
Now, we will admit that while local multiplayer is close to complete, online multiplayer is still in it's early stages and is quite buggy, but it does currently work. There is a possibility that online multiplayer specifically may need to be delayed for a v3.1 update, but we will keep you posted should that scenario come to pass.
New Spin Tennis courts
Spin Tennis (as it currently exists) is very limited, only offering a match against a computer opponent on a diagonal court, but we are excited to announce that Pongspin v3.0 will finally give it some new flavor!
In addition to local multiplayer, we will be introducing two new Spin Tennis"courts", these are new game configurations that spice up a Spin Tennis match with unique mechanics.
Pole Dance
In Pole Dance, both players are placed on opposite ends of each other, attached to their own pole that extends from the top to the bottom of the screen. During each round, both alternate moving up and down their respective pole randomly, making for an unpredictable match.
Orbital
Orbital takes place in the far reaches of outer space, with colorful stars twinkling in the distance. One sleepy star named Sungirl is orbited by both players 1 and 2, as they rally the ball back and forth.
Whenever the ball collides with Sungirl, she'll briefly awake from her sleep, visibly annoyed. Hit her too many times, and she'll angrily launch solar flares in any and all directions.
Not to worry though, you can block these solar flares with your paddle. But if one were to hit your core, it will become dislodged for the remainder of the round. A dislodged core orbits Sungirl slightly faster than the other, you can avoid colliding with the other player by pushing away from their core with your paddle, otherwise the round will end and you will lose a life.
Quadspin
Pongspin v3.0 will introduce a brand new kind of chaos with Quadspin, a wild, 4-player free-for-all that is sure to pack a punch!
Think of it like Spin Tennis on steroids, four players in each corner of the arena must defend their cores from the ball. But it won't be that simple, as intersecting in the middle of the room are a set of walls that pop in and out.
In a matter of seconds, the match can go from a free-for-all to a 1v1 match, a quick rest bit to a daunting survival challenge. Let's hope you're on the lucky side of the wall!
What else is there?
Glad you asked! Upon the release of Pongspin v3.0, we will also release the Pongspin Original Soundtrack on Steam, so you'll be able to listen to your favorite Pongspin tunes! There are a couple of smaller things we didn't mention in this post, but we'll share them at a later date.
Pongspin v3.0 will be the last major update for Pongspin, after which we will be shifting our focus to our next game, which is currently in early development. Thank you so much for your support, and we hope you enjoy Pongspin v3.0 when it releases later next month!
