Plague Doctor: Life in Pestilence changes
It's been a little over 2 weeks since we announced Plague Doctor: Life in Pestilence and we are incredibly humbled and grateful for the amazing interest you have shown for the game.
We received a lot of questions, so we compiled this short FAQ:
What kind of game is it?
Plague Doctor: Life in Pestilence is a truly immersive sim. We want players to step into a living, breathing world and feel like they are actually a Plague Doctor in turbulent medieval times.
Is there magic or other fantasy elements?
No. The game is grounded in reality. There are no spells or magic potions.
How historically accurate is the game?
We are trying to make the game as historically accurate as possible. However, if there are mechanics that would enhance the gameplay we will take creative liberties to distort the historic accuracy for a more engaging and fun experience.
The world is viewed through the eyes of how people and physicians saw it back then. Treatments and afflictions that they believed worked in a certain way, will work in the same way in the game, even if we know now, in modern times, that they are ineffective.
In what time period does the game occur?
The game starts shortly before the plague's arrival and spread in Europe. We don't have a specific date, but the events happen around 1340-1360.
Since the game starts before the plague, when will I get to play as a plague doctor?
Players start as an unknown doctor. With the passage of time news will reach the player about a deadly disease getting closer and closer to the town they are in. Eventually the plague arrives at which point the players are tasked with becoming a plague doctor. The shift from a simple physician to a plague doctor marks a major turning point in the gameplay experience.
Will there be a demo?
Yes, there will be a demo when we feel the game is polished and ready to be shared. We will also be conducting public playtests during development.
Can I play alone?
Absolutely. The game can be played alone or with up to 3 friends in 4 player co-op. The difficulty will increase with the number of players in the game, so there will always be something to do.
When will the game be released?
We truly don't know. We will announce our planned release date as soon as we know.
Thank you again for the support and your overwhelming interest,
Alex & Ovi
