🌿 Environment & CO₂ System – Overview
What is the CO₂ balance?
Your airport generates CO₂ emissions daily through landings, vehicles, and buildings. You can view the current balance at any time in the Environment window (🌿 button in the top bar).
Emission Sources: Landings: Small +2 t, Medium +5 t, Large +10 t CO₂ per landing Power Plant: +15 t CO₂ per day Ground Vehicles: +1 t CO₂ per vehicle per day CO₂ Reduction Measures: Solar Plant (2×2): −5 t CO₂ per day per panel. From 50% solar share of total energy demand, the energy is considered “solar-certified.” Recycling Center (3×2, rotatable with R key): −8 t CO₂ per day Research “Electric Ground Vehicles”: Reduces vehicle emissions by 40%. Conversion is done in the fleet manager (Menu → Fleet) Zone Eco Requirements:
When purchasing new zones (area expansions), the following minimum requirements apply:
Zone 1: Electric fleet or recycling center Zone 2: Electric fleet and recycling center Zone 3: Electric fleet, recycling center, and at least 50% solar energy
Note: Save files created before the introduction of the environmental system are exempt from these eco requirements.
💶 CO₂ Tax
A CO₂ tax is automatically applied to every aircraft handling (passenger & cargo). It is calculated based on the airport’s daily net CO₂ emissions:
📐 Formula: Tax rate = max(1%, min(3%, 1% + Net CO₂ / 35))
Tax Rate Net CO₂ 1% Net ≤ 0 t CO₂ 2% Net = 35 t CO₂ 3% Net ≥ 70 t CO₂ The tax is deducted directly from handling revenue and shown in the log with 🌿. In the Statistics window (📊), you can see daily CO₂ tax expenses. In the Environment window (🌿), you can view your current tax rate at a glance.
💡 Tip: Reduce emissions with solar plants, recycling centers, or electric vehicles to lower the tax!
