Pet changes
Hi everyone!
Pet is going to be released on Steam on August 2nd, 2023.
I first released Pet in March 2023.
The process to get on Steam took me a few months. Some of it was having to get over the hurdle of the fear of the process. It's a lot more complicated than other platforms might be, and I also had to add things like achievements and make a bunch of additional content for promotion.
Adding achievements was easier than I thought it would be, and I think the ones I've added will reward exploration and also finding all endings.
My biggest fear in releasing Pet is regarding the length of the game: exploring all of Pet and getting all endings should take around an hour if you go through and read all the text, and that's shorter than the refund amount for a game.
In the process of development, I waffled between trying to figure out how to make the game "longer" and how to make the game good. There's a lot of FMV games where moving between places takes a while as the world turns and the player sits patiently, but I don't think that's helpful for this game. I chose instead to just let the game transition quickly.
Over all, I'm still very happy with the choices I made with Pet, the small updates I made to launch on Steam, and I'm excited to see what other people think.
Pet is eventually going to be the first entry in a trilogy. My husband and I have been working on the second game in the series, Start Running, which is about 50% done.
Thank you so much for checking this out, and I am excited for people to get to play it on Steam on August 2nd.
