changedWe’ve been working hard since the start of January on fixing lots of bugs of varying sizes. This latest patch has taken a little longer than we’d have expected as we upgraded our engine version from Unreal 5.4 to 5.5. This itself gave us some unexpected issues however we are now happy with everything to push this build live.
addedThe main feature you will notice is Mega Lights, which is a new Unreal method for rending dynamic lights, this means you can now splash lights down without it killing your performance. However this feature won’t be available for everyone as your systems will require hardware ray-tracing. This is an NVIDIA RTX-2000 series or newer or an AMD RX-6000 series or newer. Sadly these are restrictions but on us by Unreal. If you don’t have these GPUs don’t worry as we still have all the dynamic lights working nicely and we’ve done some optimisations for them so they should perform better than before. We have also made the lights cover a much bigger area so hopefully you will require less of them to actually light your builds.
addedWe’ve also adjusted a lot of the lighting and shadow settings so the game looks a lot nicer on lower settings. In addition to this we’ve done a lot of work to make the game look really nice even if you have to turn Lumen off. In fact some of you may now prefer the game without lumen.
changedYou may also notice nights are a lot darker than before this is in preparation for creating the right atmosphere for the survival mode. If you find it too dark there is a brightness setting in the general tab in the graphic settings. You can also skip day with the P key (It may lag for a second or so and it's recommended you don’t move while pressing it, but it will skip night).
addedThere have also been some changes to the building system. Now when placing blocks they will snap to the closest snapping point. We’ve found this to feel a lot better, let us know what you think. This has also meant we’ve had to add an option to turn off snapping (which I know some of you wanted anyway) you will be able to see that in the building controls in the top left when your hammer is equipped.
addedWe are still working hard on fixing snapping point issues and we are slowly fixing them all. However we have been prioritising working on new features.
