addedOk so I have a little bit of explaining to do...The very few of you who played the Game Jam version of Partum Artifex might remember that the art in that version didn't have any dog-dookie AI-generated art for the paintings, so how come they were replaced? The short answer: A lack of self-esteem of my own skills and working alone - combined with uninformed ethics and morals regarding AI-generated content. That's why it ended up in Partum Artifex from the start. I'm however very strongly against the current hype that is AI-generated content and ethically I think it's garbage and unethical in 99% of how it is being used today. So today I'm so SO happy with the new patch, a patch that makes me FEEL GOOD to release.
addedTHE NEW ART IS HERE!Steam post imageI'm so INCREDIBLY lucky to have met such wonderful people over these past few years and one of them is no other than Emma Häthén ! Recognize that last name? Well it's none other than Fredrik Häthén's ( only the most awesome sound designer and composer there is ) wife! She's the person that is behind this new art and can you believe it - SHE PAINTED THESE IN REAL LIFE! There are REAL LIFE VERSIONS OF THE PAINTINGS! Do you know how SPECIAL that makes me feel??? It's so cool to see them finally being added into the game with this patch!
addedPatch Notes for 1.06Five of the six paintings have new incredible art to them. The sixth painting, the red herring, is still the same. We felt that it is very fitting for the red herring painting to stay as AI-slop to be separated from the REAL art that you are suppose to use.
addedPatch Notes for 1.06Added a brightness setting. Oooooo-boy did this one take me forever to finally add! I thought for the longest time that there were no way for me to implement it in a good technical way due to how I use certain aspects behind the scenes. But nope. It was quite simple to get it to work once I figured out the technical parts to it! So happy to adding this finally!
addedPatch Notes for 1.06Changed the inverted controls. Players can now specify to invert the controls on the X and Y axis individually. That's right! Another silly game-dev mistake from me who thought that inverting BOTH was a good solution to this accessibility... But now players can finally also specify which axis they want to be inverted! PHEW!

They're finally GONE!

Ok so I have a little bit of explaining to do...

Over the last couple of years there's been something that's been a thorn in my side. In the early days of generated art - a young (my god I wasn't young, I was 33 dammit!) DalaKoala was fascinated by the work that MidJourney was able to poop out. It was free, fast and most importantly for the project very abstract due to how it failed to draw things in detail. Do you remember those days ALL THE WAY BACK in 2022 when all these AI-generated slop-images had a huge issue with drawing hands? The DalaKoala remembers...

The very few of you who played the Game Jam version of Partum Artifex might remember that the art in that version didn't have any dog-dookie AI-generated art for the paintings, so how come they were replaced? While the thorn's been pulled out, I'm glad that it's gone and I still feel the pain from using the crap for so long. Don't be like me, use your own talent even if it's "not good enough", people will understand! Respect all the artists around you! I also want to apologize for not fixing this sooner. So with that said...

THE NEW ART IS HERE!

Patch Notes for 1.06

Not the biggest patch, but the most important patch I've ever made for any project I've worked on.

  • Five of the six paintings have new incredible art to them. The sixth painting, the red herring, is still the same. We felt that it is very fitting for the red herring painting to stay as AI-slop to be separated from the REAL art that you are suppose to use.

  • Added a brightness setting.

  • Changed the inverted controls. Players can now specify to invert the controls on the X and Y axis individually. That's right! Another silly game-dev mistake from me who thought that inverting BOTH was a good solution to this accessibility... But now players can finally also specify which axis they want to be inverted! PHEW!

Again - I want to thank Emma for the incredible work she's done. This is a super special moment for me as a game-dev and I feel like I've grown. Please do go and show her some love! If you're interested in knowing more you can always drop by DalaKoala Games Discord!

Oh and by the way...

I forgot to tell you guys here on Steam but I'm sorry to say that there wont be any future DLC...

Instead there's a full-fledged sequel is in the works. OK BYE.
