Over The Top: WWI changes
Campaign, Singleplayer & Performance Improvements!
This update introduces a number of improvements across the game, including upgrades to the Campaign mode, a brand new Singleplayer Campaign experience, major memory optimizations, AI improvements, and numerous bug fixes.
Campaign Improvements
The Campaign mode has received a variety of improvements and bug fixes, along with an entirely new territory icon system.
Each territory now displays unique soldier icons that accurately represent which armies are present and what they are currently doing. Armies can now be shown in one of four states:
Idle
Defending
Attacking
Resting
Once a territory has been selected for attack, the defending army immediately begins preparing its defenses, while the attacking force advances into battle. After the battle concludes, the victorious army enters a resting state for one turn, temporarily preventing that territory from being selected during attack direction voting.
Persistent Battles (Singleplayer Campaign)
Persistent Battles is the singleplayer version of the Multiplayer Campaign, allowing you to fight through an entire campaign completely offline.
Campaign progress is saved between sessions, letting you continue fighting on the same battlefield for as long as you like. You can create new campaigns with your own settings, save your progress at any time, and load previous campaigns whenever you want.
For players who enjoy modding, campaigns can also be customized by editing the "MPCampaigns.json"file located in the game main directory, allowing you to create campaigns using your own selection of maps.
Performance Improvements
This update includes some of the largest memory optimizations we have made so far.
Overall system memory usage has been reduced by approximately 30 - 40%, while several major and minor memory leaks have been eliminated as well, resulting in overall significantly lower memory usage.
Video memory usage has also been improved. While these optimizations should benefit all systems, players using lower end GPUs with small amounts of VRAM should notice the biggest gains.
In addition, we have replaced several built-in post-processing effects with our own custom PostFX shaders, providing a small performance boost in GPU-bound situations.
Bot & AI Improvements
Bots have received another round of improvements and fixes. We fixed several issues, including the infamous "hammer forever" bug and multiple spawning problems. Bots are now also capable of performing role-play animations and can even play musical instruments. AI development is ongoing, and we will continue improving bot behavior in future updates.
FSR and DLSS
We updated our DLSS algorithm and also finally added FSR and FSRAA to the game. In theory FSR also supports frame generation, but for that you will have to force DX12 via Steam. (Try at your own risk, its very experimental).
More Customization Options
We added more options for customization, such as grenade arc indicator colors and more. Check out the settings for more details.
Other Improvements
In addition to the larger features and optimizations, this update also includes a wide range of smaller improvements throughout the game. We updated several maps, resolved a number of player and bot spawning issues, fixed various gameplay and visual bugs, and addressed numerous stability problems as well as other minor issues.
