Our Mountain changes
Making of Level, August 2022
Hi everyone! Welcome back to the devlog series! So let's look at our second devlog of Our Mountain!
Our Mountain is a narrative adventure game, therefore telling a story is one of the important things in the game. However, our character can't speak or express a facial expression. As a result, telling a story is much harder in this situation.
Telling a story when your characters can’t speak or have a facial expression is a bit challenging, and this is the challenge we have to deal with in the process of making Our Mountain.
When the character can not speak or show their facial expressions, it’s hard to show what the character is thinking or feeling at that moment. This is a massive problem for a story game. Therefore, we have to use the music, SFX, camera angle, and level to help express the character’s feelings. Each level was designed to match the character's feelings and is still also relevant to the main story.
Let's look at some of our processes for making in-game level!
The first thing was creating the most beautiful concept art ever.
Process #1: Then we started to create a prototype of the level
Process #2: After creating a prototype, we started to add some grasses, trees, and mountains.
Final: Finally, after placing all foliage, we then added a post-process effect and light to make the level looks more attractive.
Because we don't want all levels to look the same, each level has its own color theme; for example, Purple-Yellow, Orange-Yellow, or Teal-Yellow. With these different color themes in each level, players will not feel bored and always want to explore the scene.
There are many objects that can be inspected at each level. Inspecting them will make the player understand more about the story. Players are not required to inspect them all, it's optional.
That's all for today, and the game is almost ready to launch! Thank you for reading this article.
