removedThe Kickstarter for Guardians of Orion is definitely abysmal. But this is simply due to the mainstream press blackout on me/Orion/Trek. We knew going into the crowdfunding campaign that it'd likely not succeed directly because of this/that. https://www.kickstarter.com/%E2%80%A6/guardians-of-or%E2%80%A6/posts/1392950 [ SECRETS REVEALED ] I actually had a member of the press contact us explaining a few things, including most importantly: (A) We will never be covered because we don't buy ad space (digital billboards) on their sites, like many major publishers and developers do and have always done. This is a primary funding model for the press establishment and us making games akin/resembling AAA productions is a threat to that model/establishment that would either offend their clients or them directly as it is the only way they are relevant these days as you no longer HAVE to pick up a Nintendo power to figure out what is going on in this constantly and directly connected age where devs can communicate directly to fans. (B) They can't support kickstarter for the same reason and it's why you see so many slanderous articles about them on big name websites. It is a way to avoid the publisher model, aka their financiers. That's why you see them having a field day with Alison Road leaving KS for a publisher model. [ POTENTIAL SECOND RUN - INTERNAL & DIRECT ] We are considering launching a crowdfunding campaign for Guardians of Orion once the Early Access version is out on Steam, a platform that the press cannot affect and we'd do internal marketing including ORION: Prelude, Guardians of Orion AND Steam instead of this current external campaign that utilized game promotion services, press and bloggers/streamers where it'd be entirely in our control. The biggest problem of the Kickstarter is that nobody knows about it, and that is by design. The most important thing about this Kickstarter was that it was for fans to be able to GROW the game passed the core vision. The early access version and many post-release updates are already funded and the game is on track for an early access 2015 release. For all those who came out or were able to discover this Kickstarter, we love you, we appreciate you and we will always support you. We are here because of you and we do what we do because of you. Love, David
