On Your Own: Survival Inventory changes
I spent the last few month struggling with the game flow. The original system of explore and base defense has a lot of friction in the last beta testing.
After some attempts to change the game keeping the auto-battle base defense I concluded that both game mechanics can not coexist without problems.
Finally I rip off the auto-battle base defense and give the player a long term goal (Rebuild a radio to ask for help) and more agency (a craft system to build the missing radio part) so the game is a survival-exploration-looting-crafting game.
What's New?
Long-Term Goal:
Craft the missing radio part to call for help.
Survival:
Keep an eye on your health, energy, food, and water.
Find food, water, and helpful items to survive.
Return to your base to rest and fully replenish your energy.
Exploration:
Break crates on a grid. When you break a few, items will appear.
Rotate the grid and move your character to reach the items and put them in your backpack.
Each time you break crates, you'll attract different enemies with different attacks.
Avoid them while moving or use your weapons to eliminate them.
Loot:
Explore various locations on the island with different loot deposits.
Each run make the places has a different number of floors and levels.
There are common items, basic materials, and crafting blueprints to find.
The further you go from the ground floor, the higher your chances of finding blueprints.
Crafting:
Find blueprints to learn how to craft items.
Recycle weapons, ammunition, and other items to obtain materials.
Use the fabrication machine to combine materials into more complex objects.
You decide what to make and when.
Build the radio missing part to exit the island
