Patch v0.4: 100.000 Oaklings, New Packs / Encounters & More!
Just over a month ago we released Oaken Tower into Early Access and I’m blown away to share that over 100,000 of you have picked up the game! Never in my wildest dreams did I expect to hit such a big number so fast! Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, this game grows because of you. I’ll continue to work as hard as possible on the content between now and the 1.0 release in future. ❤️
The Q2 Update: Goblin & Dragon Pack are now live!
Today I’m rolling out the planned Q2 update, which adds two brand new packs:
The Dragon set is very versatile and primarily focuses on abilities that can crit for a stronger effect.
The Goblin set has cool bombs that you can build around, and tools to create some strong tempo builds.
Two New Encounters:
Katya (Day 4)
Lemons & Limes:
Slice Lemons and Limes to earn gold. This requires a Sword, Dagger or Axe, and will start a small minigame.
Take my Spear:
Gain a Refined Spear with the ‘All’ tag.
Drakk'Zar (Day 9)
Dragon’s Hoard:
Tomorrow: find the Dragon’s Hoard.
If you pick the Dragon's hoard, it will appear on day 10 on your first reroll. It contains valuable items, and 2 new potions:
Goldplating: Double an items' sell value.
Vaultkeeper Potion: Gain +20 Gold, +10 Income and +8 XP.
Sharp Claws:
Give an item +80% Crit Chance.
⚖️ Balance
Item Balance:
🔴 Regular Bow 3 Star: +12 dmg → +10 dmg.
🔴 Fire Orb: +2 permanent burn → +1 permanent burn. | 5.1s CD → 3.7s CD.
🔴 Flare: 1 Burn → 0 Burn. | 4.1s CD → 3.9s CD.
🔴 Razorleaf: +10 Multicast → +9 Multicast. | 45 Damage → 40 damage.
🟢 Decay: Start of Combat: deal 250 dmg → 300 dmg. | At 2/3 Star, also inflict 100/200 Poison.
🔴 Stormguard: 2.5s CD → 2.7s CD.
🟢 War Bow: 12 DMG → 10 DMG. | +1 Multicast → +2 Multicast.
🟢 Cauldron: 4.5s CD → 4.3s CD.
🔴 Crook 2-Star:"Whenever this crits, gain 3 random Vials." --> 2 Random vials.
🔄 Elven Shield 2/3 Star: Ability --> "Star of Day: Permanently gain +8/+20 Poison."
🔴 Cursed Shield 3-Star:"Start of combat: Permanently gain shield equal 2x to this item's multicast." --> 1x this item's multicast.
A note on Endless Mode:
The Cursed Shield nerf is intended for endless mode, but please keep in mind that the game is balanced for normal, 10-trophy runs. Endless mode was added because people really wanted a way to keep playing after they won 10 trophies, so I added it. But due to the exponential-scaling nature of the game, endless mode will contain broken builds, and it is impossible to balance the game around it. None the less I hope you welcome the nerf to 3-Star cursed shield, and in fact, I also made another change that is good for endless mode: The game now waits 5 frames before starting to check the match results. This allows all Start-of-Combat abilities to trigger before checking anything. This was actually why A Thousand Cuts was so prominent in late endless rounds. It started with A, and was therefore the first item to trigger in the internal trigger-order, making it uncounterable.
In future updates, I will keep working on smoothing out endless mode as much as possible!
Other
Added a tooltip for "Start of Day" effects that tells you that these effects work from inventory.
Fixes
Fixed a bug where spawning goblets with 3-Star Hook could cause the game to lag a lot and bug.
Fixed a bug where the game would lag a lot when having multiple item-spawning items proccing at the same time.
Pandora’s Slot no longer keeps spawning while in-combat if you quickly pass the shop phase.
The Merge perk has been fixed. It will now proc and merge into 3 star when using Alderos “Ascension” option, when using Mirror potion and when you enter day 7 with multiple 2-Star items.
Fixed a bug where the game would lag a lot if you had many 3-star candles and then right clicked many potions in the same frame.
Fixed a bug where some items from an item-discovery would not show when pouch was open.
Fixed text-issue when hovering "Power" perk.

Finally… I’ve been “quietly” working on something not previously on the roadmap… Duos!
What is Duos?
A brand-new real-time co-operative 2-player mode in Oaken Tower
How will Duos work?
You and a friend each build your own tower, then team up to take on other duos.
During the buy phase, you’ll be able to pass items from your inventory straight to your teammate for a fee
During the buy phase you’ll also be able to view your friends tower to understand the kind of items they need
It’s easier to build synergies together! But remember… your opponents have the same advantage…
Will there be different items or abilities in Duos?
I’m also playing around with the idea of unique “Duos-only” items that take proper advantage of the mode.
Will Duos wins/losses count towards your rank?
Duos will have its own leaderboard and you’ll gain a separate rank when playing duos.
Will there be an opportunity to playtest duos before it fully releases?
If you’d like to get your hands on it early, I’ll be slowly rolling out closed playtest access via the discord community.
All of the above is very much subject to change but represents what I’m currently thinking.
