It has come to my attention that on 2024/04/01, an update to Nullschwert Demo has been released. The update, among other things, contained a "Significant Feature" aka "Honk Button".

As this was done without my supervision and permission - the culprit has been found and punished accordingly. The threat of "honking" has been stopped, for now.

I have released an update which aims to remove that feature and fix the consequences of granting our Visitors such an insane power. Unfortunately, as my influence within the Abyss and over the affected realm is still limited, I wasn't able to fix everything, and you may find it quite different than it were half a year ago.

The main change is, of course:

  • "Honk" button has been removed. WARNING: to ensure this, do not hold Skip button (V/Y by default) for longer than 8 seconds. The timer/consequences may vary depending on which stage you are. Do not take unnecessary risks.

In addition, some of the observed changes (mind the spoilers):

  • Splash screens added (press any key to skip them)

  • Main Menu labels changed

  • Improved performance overall thanks to various engine updates

  • St1 Boss - Phase 1 slightly rebalanced (a little more during

    EotL Route

), sword shots are less random

  • St2 Boss - reduced HP during her "Named" phases

  • St1 and St2 - certain

    unnaturally colored entities

    HP reduced

  • Password screen - condition to trigger it has been changed

hold C(X) during the intro of St1

  • VFXSt3replaced some bullet sprites and adjusted the boss VFX
  • Dialogue adjustments overall (ongoing change)

  • Other smaller fixes/improvements/adjustments. Please report any anomalies.

Work on the full game still continues. The Demo will not receive any big new content, but will be updated at a later date (which may have something to do with fests) including polish/balancing/story adjustments as we get closer to release.

I apologize for the silence - very little of my work can be shared without spoiling something. However, I'm always happy to hear comments, thoughts and speculations regarding Nullschwert, and I do take them into account while working on things. Whenever I feel down and like my work has no meaning - I read the comments here on Steam, on Youtube and on Discord. They remind me that, despite its various flaws, there are many people who really, really enjoy the game so far.

I will keep working as hard as I can, aiming for 2024 release. Visitors, Players, Readers - thank you all for putting up with my nonsense so far, and I hope you'll look forward to what the Abyss has in store.

Have a fun April, - Aru
