How Updates & Patches Will Work
Updates will come out every third Friday starting on launch day which will be a Friday.
The first update will come out the second Friday after launch, being 2 weeks rather than three.
Patches and bug repairs will come out every second day depending on how severe they are. (We are not sure if updates will remove building we will update you on that soon)
All in-game items will be saved when you update Northern Regime so you don't have to worry about starting over again.
This will be the last update before Northern Regime's early access launch: Northern Regime Pre-Alpha 3.0
Update intervals will work like this; A large update will be a whole 0.1.0, and small updates or large patches will be 0.0.5.
Northern Regime: 2.9.0.
What We've Added or Improved.
Modular Building & Saving. Modular building right now only includes a bed, walls, foundations, and stairs. We are going to expand adding many more items, firstly roofs, doors, and windowed walls.
Hostile Bears We've added bears that will attack if in a certain radius. They also have health bars that appear above their heads. Bears will also make a noise if in a certain radius.
Gun Reticle We have added a new dynamic weapon reticle. This reticle will sway as you move your mouse. This makes it more realistic as if you would need time to adjust to your target. The reticle will now also flash red if you hit an enemy. Before there was not such indication of hitting a target.
Dawn - Dusk Cycle This was more a personal decision than anything else. I do not like playing video games in the dark. So our new cycle will go from morning then a somewhat dark pre-night(Dusk) then it will cycle backward to the morning. We will see the response, and if needed, switch to a full day and night cycle.
Weapon Switching Small but a great change. To switch between your items you will now use the scroll wheel rather than your number keys. We did this because it feels much better, but it will also help free up the key inputs for building parts.
Player Damage We have changed from the dynamic damage system, we didn't feel it was ready, also thinking it was too complicated and annoying to play a part of the in-game experience. We have switched to a basic bandaging system to heal yourself. You need to craft bandages so it will still be dynamic.
Sounds & Music We have worked on the in-game sound effects, they will still need additional work as we are not totally happy with them just yet. The rifle shot has been enhanced and deepened. Previously the musket shot felt a little weak and unrealistic. The new sound now has some base and depth to it. An action instrumental song has been added thanks to our composer, Seth. This track will play while engaging in gun fights or being attacked. Increases immersion.
Indicators Some really cool indicators will now pop up to help you while playing Northern Regime. I play NR quite a bit so I know how everything works, but I realized a lot of people won't understand. I've taken some steps to helping those players out. If your gun is broken and needs repairs a pop-up will tell you that. The same goes for when you run out of ammo or dismantle an object. We will continue to add more!
Dismantling Constructed Items Building may be buggy in the start. There is still lots of work to be done, that being said we want the player to be able to dismantle and object like a wall and actually get that piece back in their inventory. We think this will be fair in the start.
Enemy Camp Changes We have taken a few steps to increase the liveliness of enemy camps. Ai has not been our main focus recently. Later we will have camp members wandering, gathering, and constructing. For now, we have just given enemies more animations. Before they just stood there and watched you. Now, enemies may be sitting, leaning, or sleeping.
See You All On Day One!
