No Happy Days changes
I have an important update on the development of the Free DLC for No Happy Days.
Let’s start with the biggest news:
The launch of the Free DLC will need to be delayed… but this is actually good news! Let me explain…
Since the DLC was announced, I’ve been working on it during every bit of free time I have, putting a lot of care and heart into making this content truly special. I have no doubt that you, dear reader, will love what’s coming.
Returning to development on No Happy Days has also made me realize how much I’ve grown since the original launch over a year ago. I’ve learned many new skills that I didn’t have when developing version 1.0. Because of that, I’ve decided not to simply add new content, but to re-evaluate the entire game and improve areas I now know I can do better.
In other words… NO HAPPY DAYS v2.0
Here’s the plan: the core of the game will remain the same, but certain elements will be updated and refined to create a better overall experience.
Below is a list of my current goals for what the Free DLC will include, along with their progress:
1. Red Frog Lilly Steppers Event
A special event has already been implemented in the overworld. If triggered correctly, it unlocks the Red Frog Lilly Steppers event, including a brand-new concert area made just for them.
2. Rhythm Game
You can now play songs with the Red Frog Lilly Steppers! This was showcased during THE REHEARSAL, a live event featuring a playable demo. The core programming is complete (thank god bc this was HARD). There is currently one playable song, with plans to add more and further polish the gameplay.
3. New Area Featuring Community Frogs
If you submitted a custom frog for the No Happy Days anniversary, I have big news! Your frog has already been implemented in the game, complete with unique dialogue and sprites, and placed in a very special new area.
4. Bugs & Glitches
Some screen size–related bugs have been brought to my attention. I’m actively investigating these issues and already have a few promising leads on how to fix them.
5. Sound Effects
When I originally worked on No Happy Days, I had zero idea how to make sound effects XD. Since then, I’ve spent a lot of time improving my sound design skills, and there are several sounds I’d like to rework and improve.
6. Save & Load System
Confession time: the reason No Happy Days originally launched without a save system is because I simply couldn’t figure it out at the time XD. Thankfully, I’ve grown a lot as a developer, and this time I was able to make it work! My goal is to make the game more replayable, especially if you just want to jump in and jam with the Red Frog Lilly Steppers.
I truly believe that delaying this update is the right decision. It gives me the time needed to create the definitive No Happy Days experience. I’ll continue sharing development updates, and once most of these goals are checked off, I’ll announce a release date.
Thank you to everyone who’s been with me on this journey.
Stay kind, human!
