December 25th, 2025!
Our 1 year anniversary from New Day's shift out of demo and into Early Access.
It has already been a year?! What! How?...
Amazing.
Anywho, this post isn't regarding the anniversary of New Day, unfortunately.
We've recently polled in the discord if New Day should have multiple save files. The poll in question got a resounding YES!
What does this mean for the game exactly? Well I'll tell you.
Since New Day wasn't built for a multi-save function in mind, it took a good bit to rework the save system. Unfortunately, this means your save files will be invalid in the next update. Fortunately, there is a way to save your islanders / rooms! Just follow the steps below before launching the update when it comes out.
Step 1. Locate the StreamingAssets folder. You can find this in New Day / New Day_Data > StreamingAssets.
Step 2. In the folder, take out IslanderData and RoomData.
Step 3. Place them somewhere safe! Preferably on your desktop. You want your islanders to be nice and cozy while they wait for their new home.
Step 4. Download the update. Remember, you cannot do this until December 25th, 2025.
Step 5. Start a new game!
Step 6. Once you're loaded into the island, name and save your game.
Step 7. Close New Day.
Step 8. Place both of the folders into the now-created folder of StreamingAssets > _SaveFiles > SaveFile_00.
Step 9. Reload New Day.
Step 10. Load the save you imported your data into.
Step 11. Visit the Islander Creator... your islanders are alive, huzzah!
Step 12. Visit the Room Editor... your rooms are... alive??... huzzah??...
Again, this update WILL remove all relationships / familial connections / etc.
But your Islanders and Rooms should be safe as long as you follow the steps above before launching your game. Launching on an old save file might bug out the game entirely, so please use the New Game button instead of the Continue button upon launch.
Thank you so much for following New Day's development and thank you to all the newcomers who found the game and is now following! We love you all and we're looking forward to seeing your reaction to the latest update in the following month.
See you real soon...
