Dear Directors,

With this Demo update, we are officially launching the Branch Navigation feature!

Note: The English localization of this announcement is currently in progress.

Players can now view their story progression more intuitively, review explored routes, and discover possible paths they have yet to uncover.

However, unlike most narrative games, the branches in NCH: Chronos Rebirth are not a simple route tree.

To help players understand this complex narrative system, we have been exploring a way to present information clearly while preserving the sense of discovery.

Why Isn't NCH's Branching System a Tree?

Many narrative games use a branching structure like:

A Choice → B Story → C Ending

After making a choice, players enter a fixed route.

However, the story progression in NCH: Chronos Rebirth is not determined only by "what you choose."

Information collected in previous events, relationships with characters, attribute changes, and connections between different events can all influence future developments.

As a result, the same choice may lead to completely different outcomes under different circumstances.

Currently, our branching system mainly includes the following five mechanisms:

1. Attribute Development

The game features two progression systems:

  • Protagonist attributes;

  • Character trust values.

Players need to accumulate and balance these values throughout the story. Key moments will evaluate the current state and determine the direction of events.

For example. When facing a crisis:

  • With higher Toughness, the protagonist may prioritize the most efficient solution;

  • With higher Empathy, the protagonist may attempt to protect their allies.

Therefore, even if players choose the same option at a branching point, differences in accumulated values may trigger different story developments.

2. Multi-Dimensional Value Checks

Some scenarios involve multiple dimensions at the same time:

  • Excessively high values may create new risks;

  • Insufficient values may prevent further progression.

The rules for value checks vary across different stages.

Players need to evaluate the situation rather than simply maximize a single attribute.

3. Consistency Verification

Some scenarios examine the logical consistency between your choices.

Two choices may appear to differ by only one option.

However, if they belong to different logical systems, they may eventually lead to completely different outcomes.

Conversely, choices that appear very different may still lead to the same result if they maintain the same underlying logic.

4. Special Gameplay Mechanics

Beyond traditional choices, we have also designed special gameplay mechanics based on the story setting.

These mechanics can affect:

  • Information obtained;

  • Decision-making methods;

  • Future event triggers.

The story is not simply something to read. Players are expected to analyze situations and make decisions throughout the journey.

5. Compound Mechanisms

The truly complex part is that these systems do not exist independently.

The activation of certain events may depend on multiple conditions across different dimensions.

Why Create Such a Complex System?

Because we want players to truly feel that they have control over the story.

The purpose of creating Branch Navigation is to make this complex system easier to understand and explore.

The current version is only the first iteration of this feature. Branch Navigation Is Still Being Improved.

We are still exploring:

  • How to present complex branching paths;

  • How to help players discover routes they are interested in;

  • How to balance information and the joy of exploration.

We would love to hear your feedback.

The testing phase is currently ongoing.

After playing the Demo, please consider filling out the in-game survey.

Players who complete the survey may have the opportunity to be included in the in-game Thank You Credits.

Thank you to everyone who is willing to explore this world and help us improve NCH: Chronos Rebirth.
