WAIT, PEOPLE ARE RECORDING MY HELPERS PLAYTHROUGHS!?

The title might seem a bit dramatic, but believe me: that was my reaction when I first saw a My Helpers video pop up in my YouTube feed.

changedI know it might sound like false modesty, but honestly, since the very beginning of development, I considered My Helpers to be a totally "anti-playthrough" game. Who would want to record a game that takes place almost entirely on their own desktop?
changedEspecially from my perspective as the developer, these videos are my only chance to experience what it’s actually like to play my own game, and I'm incredibly grateful for them!

Well... looks like I was proven wrong.

Like almost every puzzle game, My Helpers suffers from the curse of only really being playable once. But that's where other people's playthroughs come in: even though it's not exactly the same thing, watching them lets you experience a bit of that feeling all over again (and I say this from personal experience, having watched 5+ different Outer Wilds playthroughs by now).

Especially from my perspective as the developer, these videos are my only chance to experience what it’s actually like to play my own game, and I'm incredibly grateful for them!

Since I know there might be others out there who feel the same way, here are 3 playthroughs I've found so far:

  • This one was made by Felixtfox, and some of the editing tricks in it are so good that they might have actually inspired a few things in the final version of the game:

  • This one, by DaceJR, was the very first one I saw! I remember shaking throughout the entire video (it was a surreal experience):

  • And this one proved me wrong yet again: I really didn't think anyone would ever be up for doing a LIVESTREAM of My Helpers, but that’s what PaPaJDub did! It really surprised me to see the dynamic between the streamer and the chat working together to solve the puzzles, and I was thrilled to see how well it actually worked! Steam post image

  • And as a bonus: it’s not a playthrough, but I also stumbled upon a short that already has over 340k views! It was a real jumpscare to see that in my feed. Steam post image

If you happen to stumble across any other playthroughs out there, please send them my way! I'm super curious to see more (and maybe I'll do another one of these later on)!
