addedAs a small update on the state of things we're now scheduling the new engine for end of November to be released. However, instead of just being at the state of 0.9 it will be a bigger update in general that already has lots of new content along with it.
addedChickensWe‘re adding the first animal to the game; Chickens. They can be raised to produce different animal products such as eggs, fat, meat, bones (and feathers in a later update). The eggs and meat can be used as a food source for you and your workers.
changedButcheringYou can technically butcher any creature, even alive ones using the health tab. However, when a creature has at least some movement ability it isn't possible. You need a knife and ideally also have an empty container like a jar (for storing the fat).
addedButcheringWe‘re not stopping at just chickens though, you can also now chop up humans. They provide meat, fat and bones (and skin that can be processed into leather in a later update). Fat can be used to produce glycerin (will be shown in another dev diary) and the bones can be crushed into bone meal for fertilizer.
addedButcheringIn next week's post I'll showcase the new temperature mechanics and the new wetlands biome!

This post is about the first features of the 0.10 update.

As a small update on the state of things we're now scheduling the new engine for end of November to be released. However, instead of just being at the state of 0.9 it will be a bigger update in general that already has lots of new content along with it.

Chickens

We‘re adding the first animal to the game; Chickens. They can be raised to produce different animal products such as eggs, fat, meat, bones (and feathers in a later update). The eggs and meat can be used as a food source for you and your workers.

Female chickens can be fertilized by mating with male chickens. They also have a interval at which they lay eggs. When the egg laying is at 100% the egg is dropped as a fertilized egg if they chicken is fertilized. Unfertilized chickens will also lay unfertilized eggs but only the fertilized eggs can hatch. When a chicken egg hatches it will create a baby chicken, which will eventually grow into an adult chicken.

Chickens will eat a lot of different things: grapes, wheat, bread and cooked or even raw meat.

Butchering

You can technically butcher any creature, even alive ones using the health tab. However, when a creature has at least some movement ability it isn't possible. You need a knife and ideally also have an empty container like a jar (for storing the fat).

We‘re not stopping at just chickens though, you can also now chop up humans. They provide meat, fat and bones (and skin that can be processed into leather in a later update). Fat can be used to produce glycerin (will be shown in another dev diary) and the bones can be crushed into bone meal for fertilizer.

This system will also be expanded on in future updates for mechanics like surgery (i.e. amputating an infected limb) or even torture.

In next week's post I'll showcase the new temperature mechanics and the new wetlands biome!
